EW's Spoiler Room - 5/18/12

Been anxiously awaiting this interview with Stana Katic. You did NOT disappoint. — @Boock76

You’re making me blush! As a thanks, what about some Castle scoop about the show’s other big couple: Ryan and Esposito! As you’ll recall, the season-ender found the twosome on the outs after Esposito backed Beckett over his partner, leading to his suspension. So how long before our favorite bromance is back on good terms? Jon Huertas thinks it shouldn’t take too long. “If I know [executive producer] Andrew Marlowe, I think he will probably have us [friends again] by the end of the first episode, scene 5,” he said. But it won’t be easy. “He will probably have that seed of distrust planted. I probably won’t trust Ryan as I much did before,” Huertas adds.

EW: 'Castle' star Stana Katic on last week's epic finale: 'I think waiting any longer would have been unfair and dishonest.'

Castle‘s season finale last week left fans who’d been eager to see dynamic duo Castle and Beckett take their relationship to the next level satisfied and excited to see what’s to come.

Stana Katic couldn’t help but tease to us with the “what’s to come” part, but she did share her mutual excitement for the pair’s big step. She took us behind the scenes of the finale by breaking down Esposito’s decision to back Beckett while searching out her mother’s killer, and talk about her big rooftop fight!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This season finale felt perfect for the journey we’ve been through this season. Did you see it kind of the same way?

STANA KATIC:
Yeah, I loved it. I felt like if we waited any longer it would be untrue to the characters. They’ve gone through a lot together, a lot of really great moments and a lot of really scary journeys together. I think waiting any longer would have been unfair and dishonest. So I think [creator Andrew Marlowe] did a really great job bringing those two characters finally to a point of complete honesty with each other.

EW's Spoiler Room - 5/11/12

Hi Sandra. I hear that you were lucky enough to chat with the stunning Stana Katic. What did she have to say about the season finale? I know how much she was rooting for Castle/Beckett to finally get together. Any teases for what is to come in season 5 or what she hopes to come? — Cheryl

Since season 5 has yet to hit paper, no teases. But she certainly echoed executive producer Andrew Marlowe’s statements about the chemistry we will see between the two. “I don’t know what they’re going to do. I know that Andrew has always felt like the show has that kind of His Girl Friday feel,” she says. “And as in any relationship, there are all these charmingly complicated moments of adjustment and getting to know each other in a relationship that could be charming and compelling to watch.” Full chat goes up today. Promise.

Zap2It: Andrew Marlowe dishes on the hookup

It's happened, folks -- after four long seasons of "will they or won't they" sexual tension, Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Det. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) finally acted on their urges and wound up in bed together during the "Castle" Season 4 finale. While legions of Caskett 'shippers perfect their victory dances, creator Andrew Marlowe opens up to Zap2it about the couple's long journey together.

"It's really a nicely passionate scene," Marlowe says of the moment Castle and Becket finally get together. "It's a scene of recognition on both their parts, recognizing the journey that they've been through. We end almost on that note, with a promise to the audience that let's see what happens when they wake up the next day and what this relationship looks like."

No, he won't skip over the good part of the relationship, where Castle and Beckett are learning how to function as a couple. "I think that with a relationship like this and these two characters, how hard earned the relationship is, a lot of people are going to want to see how it goes and what the two of them look like in a relationship, and we think it's going to be a lot of fun."

Although some fans might've gotten frustrated after Castle revealed his love for Beckett and they still didn't get together, Marlowe says he hopes they'll look back on the season as a whole and realize the writers were heading toward this ending the entire time.

"Yeah, it was absolutely the plan, from actually two thirds of the way through Season 3 when when we knew we were going to end it with Montgomery getting shot and killed and Beckett getting shot, and the revelation of Castle's 'I love you.' We had that long before we ended the season," he explains. "I knew that we could sustain about a season once the 'I love you' was out there, so it was always to have arrived at this place. And you know, I think the fans that have been frustrated by what we've done this year will look back at the year differently once they know that our two guys got together. Just because it was always the plan from the beginning."

GMMR: Andrew Marlowe on the Castle and Beckett ‘Always’ Fallout

So, CASTLE fans, are you still breathing?

(Take a second, I can wait.)

After all, after four seasons of dancing around each other, Castle and Beckett took a major step forward in their relationship at the end of “Always”…one of those relationship-altering steps that has likely broken a couple of social media sites.

To get some dish on why the timing was right for the duo now, what fans can expect in a probable season 5 and more, I spoke with CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe to get the dish…

It feels crazy to say it, but Castle and Beckett have now gone there. What made the timing right for these two now?

Andrew Marlowe: Because it was absolutely time. And honestly, this was a decision that became clear to us about 2/3s of the way through last season when we made the decision of how we were ending last season. It’s impossible for Castle to say “I love you” and leave that hanging in the air and have the characters know that that’s out there and wait much longer to deal with that in an interesting and honest way.

We’re 81 episodes in, we’ve done a lot of storytelling having not gone there. And my personal feeling is we were on the verge of creating very artificial mechanisms of keeping them apart. And we were on the verge of rehashing storytelling in their relationship and we were in danger of not moving forward. So we had always aimed for this as being the end [result] of this season. And when people look back on this season, they will see the rhythm and they will look at the moments where they were really frustrated and understand why we did it then and what we were going for, because we always knew we were going to end up here.

TVLine: Castle Boss Says What Comes Next Is Tough, 'But It'll Be Fun Tough'

On Monday night in the Season 4 finale of Castle, all secrets were shared and all cards were put out on the table, as promised. But where did it all lead?

Working the murder of an Army vet, Beckett & Co. came to discover through DNA evidence that the shooter was the same guy who put a bullet in Kate’s heart a year ago — and thus he figures into the larger, deadly conspiracy surrounding Johanna Beckett’s years-ago killing.

But for Kate to rattle that hornet’s nest again would certainly lead to her own demise — a fact that Rick has known but kept to himself. And in the finale, he made clear to Kate exactly why she needed to back away from this case.

Beckett was less than understanding. “I didn’t need protection; I needed a lead, and you sat on it for a year…. How the hell could you do this?!”

“Because I love you. But you already know that, don’t you,” Rick said, alluding to his Season 3 finale declaration which Kate has pretended to not remember.

They agreed to disagree, and Kate stayed on the case while Rick disclosed his intention to exit stage left, once and for all. But after a brutal rooftop throwdown with the shooter (played by Battlestar Galactica alum Tahmoh Penikett) — and backlash from Capt. Gates which led Beckett to not just turn in her badge, as Esposito did, but tender her resignation — a rain-soaked Kate showed up at Rick’s door to say three words again and again: “I’m so sorry.”

“He got away, and I didn’t care,” she explained. “I almost died, and all I could think about was you. I just want you.”

TV Guide: Castle Boss: "I Have No Intention of Pulling the Rug Out From the Audience"

Are you still with us Castle fans?

After four seasons of will-they-won't-they romantic tension, the ABC drama's Season 4 finale seemingly brought mystery writer Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) together with his muse, Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). But getting there was no easy task.

After a murder investigation put Beckett on the trail of Cole Maddox (Tahmoh Penikett), the man who shot her in last year's season-ender, Castle had to reveal the secret he's been keeping all season: He's been investigating Beckett's mother's murder covertly in order to keep her away from the case and therefore keep her alive. The betrayal hits Beckett hard, and it seems the duo's partnership is finished.

But after Beckett nearly dies during another run-in with Maddox — and after her recklessness causes her to resign from the police force — Beckett runs to Castle for a passionate make-out session before ultimately leading him to the bedroom.

So, did Castle and Beckett actually get it on? And what does this mean for their future? We took all our questions to creator Andrew W. Marlowe, who assures us, this is only the beginning.

So, you finally put Castle and Beckett together. Why was now the time?
Andrew W. Marlowe: Ultimately, you get to a fork in the road. If we kept them apart any longer, say another season — after what Castle had put on the table at the end of last season — in my mind, that would have been the death of the series. Then, we would have just been being artificial. They would have become brother and sister, and then we're just ignoring everything that had happened. There comes a point where you have to confront it. ... We wanted to get the point where we resolved it and made a promise for next season that these two are going to have to be dealing with their feelings for one another.

Of course, we didn't see whatever was about to happen in that bedroom. Are you planning to pull a fast one next season?
Marlowe: I have no intention of pulling the rug out from the audience. I think that when that scene ends, everybody is clear on what's about to happen. We don't need to see it, but we know it's going to happen.

Inside TV: The inside story on THAT moment

Castle creator and executive producer Andrew Marlowe knew that last night’s big moment would have fans buzzing. How could it not? After four seasons of ups, downs, and shameless flirting from both Castle and Beckett, the season 4 finale gave fans what they’d been hoping for: a chance to see the pair finally get together!
Bold? You bet. But not as bold as the alternative, says Marlowe.

“Not doing it would have been even ballsier because I think the audience is near it’s breaking point,” he says. “And it’s 2012, people fall into and out of bed together all the time. If it had gone on any longer, we would have been bad storytellers.”

And this new path, which will find Castle and Beckett entering a relationship together in season 5? It’s full with opportunity, he says.

“It was important to open up the storytelling. We had done as much storytelling as we thought we could do credibly with not having them together. So the characters either had to do their separate ways or get together,” he says. “We thought there was a lot of fun to be had mining their relationship once they were together because no relationship goes smoothly, and they’re fundamentally different people.”

E! Online: Castle Boss Talks Explosive Season Finale: What's Next for Castle and Beckett?

Castle and Beckett: It's been the consummation devoutly to be wished.

So after four seasons of red-hot chemistry on Castle, did the crime novelist and his muse finally get their Nikki Heat on?

Read on for a postmortem of tonight's game-changing finale with Castle showrunner Andrew Marlowe…and scoop on what's to come in season five.

Spoiler Alert (Do we really have to say it?): Don't read if you haven't watched yet!

Aw. The stars aligned at last for Castle and Beckett, one of TV's most dynamic duos and now a certified couple!

"All I want is you," Beckett (Rebecca!) told Castle, abandoning both her obsession with her mother's murder and her inhibitions before a passionate scene that would've made Nikki Heat proud.
But the crimefighters' happy ending didn't come easily.

"The finale is an emotional ride," said Marlowe, who lit "a lot of fireworks" before the ultimate payoff.
"They had to confront the betrayals, they had to confront the secrets and they had to confront how they feel about each other," Marlowe notes. "I think that the payment was a little bit of fun in getting to the other side of all this 'angsty' stuff and help reinject this show with an element of fun."

Most of all, Marlowe hopes the audience is "very satisfied" by the outcome.

After four years of foreplay, how could it not be? As Marlowe candidly admits, "We felt like we had run everything we could possibly get out of the two of them not being together and that we were dangerously close to having to repeat ourselves or step backwards."

GMMR: Andrew Marlowe Teases ‘Always’

It’s a little crazy to believe, but we’re a little over a day away from the CASTLE season finale. (Where the heck has time gone?!) And let’s be honest…if you’re a CASTLE fan, you may be losing your mind just a teeny tiny bit thanks to the spoilerific promos ABC has released.

So, I’m here to (hopefully) make the wait for “Always” a little bit easier.

Last time I spoke with CASTLE creator Andrew Marlowe, he dropped a ton of finale teases just days before they actually shot the episode. But you guys wouldn’t object to a few more hints from a conversation I had with him late last week, right?

Keep reading for Marlowe’s take on what’s been revealed via promos, partnership angst, and a very vague tease about Tahmoh Penikett’s character…

I know you’re on Twitter, but I don’t know if you’ve seen how much CASTLE has broken social media in the past couple of days…

Andrew Marlowe: [Laughs] Those promos, huh? Leave it to the ABC promo department to be subtle. [Laughs again] It’s been something to watch. And it’s been something to watch when you have no control over it and you just have to go to your zen place.

Is that something that has been bothering you?

AM: As a storyteller it does, but from a promo point of view, I certainly understand their desire to get the fanbase talking and really excited. And I think they certainly achieved that. And the nice thing is the stuff they’ve shown isn’t all in context and there’s still a lot of surprises, even with the clips the audience has seen. When they’re in a different context, I think it’s going to be very interesting and surprising. So yeah, as a storyteller it bothers me to have all that stuff out there, but as a marketer, I understand their decision to do it.

TVLine Finale Preview: Will Rick 'Blow Up' His Relationship With Kate to Save Her?

This Monday at 10/9c, in the Season 4 finale of ABC’s Castle, the murder of an Army veteran puts Kate (played by Stana Katic) on the trail of the man who shot her – meaning she’s perilously close to revisiting the murder of her mother. But Rick (Nathan Fillion) has privately vowed to steer his partner away from that conspiracy-laden powder keg, lest he lose her — forever.

Will Castle be forced to reveal the secret agenda by which he has been operating – and thus be punished by Beckett for a perceived betrayal? Could this finale serve up the biggest blow to the “Caskett” relationship… or, somehow, bring them closer than ever? Circling back to the unsolved case of Johanna Beckett’s murder for the Season 4 finale is by design, says series creator Andrew W. Marlowe, since that story point always goes hand-in-hand with significant movement – sometimes for better, other times for worse — on the Rick/Kate front.

“Beckett is at her most raw when she’s dealing with her mother’s murder,” Marlowe tells TVLine. “That’s when she’s most emotionally vulnerable, even from the first time we touched this ground in Episode 10 of our first season, where Castle starts looking into [Johanna's] murder and causes their first rift. And at the end of Episode 213, ‘Sucker Punch,’ we have a very nice scene where Beckett accepts Castle’s presence – like, ‘I kind of want you around. I like you pulling my pigtails.’ Their emotional trajectory has always been intertwined [with the Johanna Beckett case].”

Castle Showrunner Andrew Marlowe Teases Castle and Beckett's "Emotionally Messy" Finale Moment - Wetpaint Exclusive

With the Castle Season 4 finale, “Always,” airing Monday, May 7, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with showrunner Andrew Marlowe to get the inside scoop on the episode — and what exactly goes down between Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic).

In Andrew’s words, “Just stick with it till the end to see where the characters end up.”

In bed, perhaps?

Wetpaint Entertainment: So we can expect a big Castle/Beckett episode?

Andrew Marlowe:
Yes. Castle and Beckett have been talking around a lot of stuff for a long time and they’re each been keeping significant secrets from each other and it’s not just how they feel but Castle having made this deal for Beckett’s life with a mysterious character and Beckett knowing that he said, “I love you,” but not knowing that he knows — in the finale all that gets put on the table and they’re forced to confront it in an open and honest way. And I think the fans have really been craving for the two of these people to have that dialogue, have them confront it directly, and this is the moment where we allow them to. And then of course, it’s colored by the fact that each one has kind of betrayed the other and they have to deal with those issues as well.

Let’s talk about the mystery. So we’re going back to Beckett’s mother’s murder. Will we get closure?

Yes and also to her shooting. You won’t get closure. But here’s the thing. Up until now, every time we’ve taken a step into this territory it seems to have gotten more complicated. But what we’re not doing now is complicating it. What we’re doing now is giving us momentum to closure. But this last episode, it’s not so much about that. It’s about it being a catalyst in the Castle/Beckett relationship and what it does to these two guys.

Seamus Dever Teases Castle's Season 4 Finale: Ryan and Esposito's Relationship Will Be Tested – Wetpaint Exclusive!

Castle's much-hyped-about Season 4 finale "Always" is right around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited (read: biting our nails in fangirl anticipation). Although much of the focus is currently on Richard Castle and Kate Beckett, we can't ignore Castle's other dynamic duo: Detective Ryan and Detective Esposito.

Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with series star Seamus Dever, who dished about what's in store for our favorite wise-cracking sidekicks.

Wetpaint Entertainment: We've got to talk about the big finale!

Seamus Dever: Yeah. A lot of stuff happens. It was a big episode to shoot. It was so big that we went over the allotted eight days, and it was more like 10 days for me, at least. I only wrapped last week, and I did ADR [dubbing] on Tuesday. So, yeah, I just finished.

What happened to make it go past eight days? Are there big action sequences?

Yeah. There's some action stuff that happens. So whenever you do the action stuff, you've got to film little parts and little things. I feel like we shot the same scene for about three days. So it's big.

Rob Bowman’s directing it. He's our best director. He's a wonderful director, and he really wanted to get the most out of it. He took his time with the things where he really felt it needed it, and I think people are going to like it.

Aside from that, the writing's great. Some crazy stuff happens. Stuff that, I guess, we can recover from, but some interesting shifts in relationships. So I think for one relationship, the audience is going to be real happy, and I think for another relationship, they're going to be devastated. So it's going to be interesting to see how people respond.

Inside TV - 5/4/12

Hi Sandra. Can’t end Castle season 4 without asking you one last time for Scoop! What do you have for us? Will the finale be as jaw-dropping as last year’s? I know there is so much speculation about a Castle/Beckett hookup in the finale, but I am curious about the fate of my other favorite duo on the show, Ryan & Esposito. Does something shocking happen to them? Thanks! — Cheryl

Last year’s finale — with the reveal that the chief was involved in Beckett’s mom’s murder — was several years in the making, as you’ll recall. And I can most definitely say the same thing about this year. So yes, definitely as jaw-dropping — and probably more. As far as Ryan and Esposito, you’ll find them at a point come season’s end that will give them a very interesting launching point next season — and I wouldn’t count out a little drama between those two. Also, DID YOU SEE THIS?!?

4x23 - Always (Season Finale) - Additional Sneak Peek

Source: TheBestSuperVacicci8

The Season 4 finale might be one of the most highly anticipated finales of the year. It's been a season of push and pull, hot and cold, lies and half-truths, so fans who were in it for the will they/won't they aspect alone were schooled in just how complicated one show's core relationship could be.

In the of the interview with boss Andrew Marlowe, which posted before Monday's zombie episode, Marlowe teased how that episode's action would bring Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) closer again -- and it did -- but he was also quick to add: "Of course, we knock that on its ass in the finale." Of course.
Now, here are some of his more promising teases for fans (and a jaw-dropping exclusive sneak peek below). "In the finale, the characters are ready to have this conversation. The characters are ready to talk about how they feel," Marlowe said. "So we can make that promise to the audience that all the cards are laid on the table in the finale."

Mega Buzz - 5/1/12

Does Castle's finale have a cliff-hanger like last year's? I'm not sure I could handle that! — Jessica

ADAM:
Creator Andrew W. Marlowe hints that Beckett will be experiencing a lot of changes in the finale, and the domino effect of said changes leads to this season's climax. And while I'm pretty sure that no one's life will be hanging in the balance, Castle-Beckett fans will likely still be in for a long summer. Why? Marlowe says this finale doesn't lend itself to a large time jump between seasons. "The way we're ending this season, people will want to know what happens in the immediate aftermath," he teases.
