What if Castle's dad is the Vice President? That would explain how he got to work with the CIA, and Nathan did say that those casting roles might have something to do with is dad... Could it be possible? I think so.
He's been Veep for what, 13 years now? Buh bye term limits! He's probably INVOLVED, but we don't know what side or where he fits in. Or what he did before he was VP. With the election coming, I hope hope hope they don't get political. Those kinds of plots never seem to work out. I think they do need some meta-plot to hold the series together. Resolving the Johanna Beckett murder AND hooking Caskett up at almost the same time, on one hand they're lightening the mood considerably. On the other, they'll need some new meta-plot. Huertas is a great actor, but focusing on him and Lanie, or him and Ryan, or Alexis and the controversial new beau she's rumored to get, or hell, Lanie/Perlmutter hooking up (Perlanie?)-- whatever they switch to, it moves the focus away from Castle and Beckett and more towards an ensemble. That might be good for the show, but it's definitely a major structural change. Or, if ABC let them know this is their last season, maybe they're just tying up all the loose ends early and kicking back and having fun with the rest. Unlikely, but possible. Either way, I'm happier that things will be fun again like in Season 1-3.
I just hope that Castle's dad isn't negatively involved in Beckett's mom's murder
I think it would be interesting if castle's dad actualy killed beckett's mother, I think it would add a nice twist and leave a lot of space for the following seasons to go.
I dunno if they will go down the road of it being Castle's Dad that ordered Johanna's death. It could potentially leave a dark cloud hanging above our favourite couple that would have the potential to cause irreparable damage between them. They've made it pretty clear that these two are in it for keeps now and they won't be pulled apart. There will be challenges along the way for them to overcome, but if they went down the road of having them discover Rick's father was behind this conspiracy then that could easily pull them apart for good. I think that they're intending to pick up on the mystery of who Rick's father really is after the Johanna Beckett case is solved as something to have in the background while they deal with other cases and issues in their lives.
Emma, that would be interesting and it probably would break up caskett, but if it didnt his dad would meet beckett then realize his som is dating the daughter of someone he ordered to kill. But i agree with anon 10:09 i dont them to pull apart :(
Did anyone read the first series of comments in that link re the stupidest prize? Very funny. Is it time for season 5 yet?
Hey guys, I just hope that Castle's Dad got nothing to do with the Johanna Beckett's murder; it would be so ridiculous!!I mean, this would be so easy and bring the evidence, in this case, that the writers, at this time, wouldn't show much imagination. They have to use Rick's father for a new case; I do hope so!!
I totally agree. I think it would be a waste of a storyline to have Castle's dad be the guy who murdered Beckett's mother. It doesn't show a whole lot of creativity, and I really hope the writers have come up with a better solution for Castle's daddy storyline. I have faith in you, Marlowe! :)
They've kind of reached a point now where they have to provide Kate Beckett with some (if not all) closure in this story arc surrounding Johanna Beckett's murder. This is the case that's been at the core of this show simmering away behind the scenes for the most part, whilst occasionally bubbling to the surface and causing the biggest movements in terms of Rick and Kate's relationship. They simply cannot drag this out much longer and it seems like they're aware of this and are looking to bring some sort of closure to it this season. I think it would be really interesting to see them look to move the mystery surrounding Rick's father into the place that the Johanna Beckett murder has had. For one Rick trying to find out who his father is will be a far more light-hearted storyline than the dark undertones of the Johanna Beckett murder, which would make the Daddy mystery fall into line with what they promised us, a more fun Season 5. I think that they have done a marvellous job with the Johanna Beckett case and the conspiracy surrounding it and there is still more information to be revealed into Season 5, so I can't wait to see how that plays out!
I agree they are not going to that would be stupid as hell!
Plus I'm hoping they'll revisit the 3XK case this season.
I'm ano 10.28.So,yes, I say it again: don't make that foolish thing to mix up Kate mum & Rick's dad. Create a new story with Castle's father and, you're right, don't forget the 3XK's case. This season has to give us more fun as Marlowe said. But we need some old good cases too......and it has to be real ¬ unbelievable..
As I've read in articles and interviews with Andrew marlowe, the case of Beckett's mother will be solved, in the priemiere. I think after that happens we will see a lot of fun flirty times with castle and Beckett, then we will hopefully find out who castle's father is, which could be anyone at this point, but I've always had the feeling it is mr. Smith! But who knows, anyone else have theories?! Oh and is it September yet?
Castle has been fun for me for 4 seasons. People act like the JB case has been in every episode. The cloud hanging between Caskett surrounding this case has been there since the pilot when her walls revealed themselves after he cold read her about why she was a cop. Even in the aftermath of her shooting I have been cracking up during the episodes.I love the balance of the dark and light episodes and don't want the show to turn into a straight comedy like Bones has for the most part.Marlowe. Please keep it light and still bring the dark out occasionally. I've been having fun and so much more for 4 seasons.I can always watch Big Bang Theory or reruns of Friends if I wanted fun, fun, fun. This is a DRAMEDY!Bring the drama, procedural, comedy, shippy stuff, and the amazing acting and writing you've been doing the past 4 seasons. For those who can't handle the JB case or an argument between Caskett or Ryan & Espo they can always turn the channel.I don't want it to be fun and light all the effing time. The show even in S1 had a serious tone to it and bringing the fun at the same time. That's what separates Castle from othet shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, & Law & Order. S2 was lighter, but then nothing major took place until the finale when sh!t got real between Caskett. The darker episodes gives us some of the BEST Castle & Beckett moments!I am a fan who wants to keep the show balanced with light and dark episodes. I don't want the victims to be taken lightly. This show deals with death and finding criminals ontop of keeping it light while doing so. If they focus too much on the fun, the impact of Beckett, Ryan, and Espo finding killers can get lost. Castle makes their jobs fun, but I don't want the show to lose its appeal with, fun, fun, fun. This fandom will cry foul the minute the fun stops like they've been doing since season 2 even when the episodes were lighter and Caskett were playing the denial and mindgames with each other. Ugh.Please keep the show going with seasons 3 and 4's momentum. Those seasons REALLY brought all the characters closer, especially Caskett. Seasons 1 and 2 they were just getting to know each other. Now they do know each other bettet with room to grow and have grown so much already. This show gets bettet and better. No need to throw in S2's vibe and overlook what the other seasons have brought to the table. In Marlowe I trust. I just have a feeling he said something that some fans are taking too literal and they are forgetting that this is a COP show. It won't always be fun, fun, fun. I hope when the darker episodes appear, the fans can remember that and not accuse Marlowe of lying to them like he's been accused of before, which I don't think he ever has.JMO.
I agree with you JMO. In my opinion Season 4 was the strongest season yet of this show and the ratings reflect that, with Season 4 attaining the highest viewing numbers of all four seasons of this show. There were so many people coming on here telling us that Season 4 had been a "waste of time" for them without really giving any constructive reasons for that sentiment. Makes me think that these negative comments towards Season 4 were born from the frustration people began to have because they all wanted Castle and Beckett together now and were (in the end only slightly) out of sync with Andrew Marlowe, who planned all along to get Castle and Beckett together by season's end. I went into Season 4 feeling in my opinion that Rick's ILY to Kate in the Season 3 Finale would lead to a resolution at the end of Season 4.In regards to the fandom crying foul, the discussion post of the episode "The Limey" is a good example of this. It seems like people never want to see any angst happen between the characters and believe there should be only good things happen between them. For starters, that's not very realistic is it, having no angst and only having fun stuff? Secondly, without angst to balance the fun parts this show probably wouldn't sustain itself, as these two opposing mindsets have helped drive this show to become what it is now. The interesting thing about "The Limey" and "Headhunters" was that at Paley Fest the cast/crew told us that Castle and Beckett were going to go through "a thing" before things got really, really good. So it's not like they didn't warn us the events of "The Limey" and "Headhunters" were going to happen, yet people still got massively upset over these episodes.I'm no psychologist but I think that the negative sentiment that some people had towards Season 4 may have been derived from how much they care about these characters. These people (like everyone else) feel the connection between Rick and Kate as if they were two real-life people living among us, yet as I mentioned above are (or at the current point in time were) out of sync with the writers. They all wanted the two characters together earlier than what the writers did and because the writers weren't giving these fans what they wanted at the time that led to the claims that Season 4 was rubbish. Those claims went awfully silent after the Season Finale though! This show is proof that you don't have to hold off getting your characters together to keep generating interest around the WTWT theme. If you get the right balance of actors and writers together you can get the two leads together earlier and not see the show suffer because of it. There is this (slightly paranoid) fear out there that getting Castle and Beckett together will signal the beginning of the end of this show (the mythical "Moonlighting Curse"), but I think that this show can only grow stronger now that Castle and Beckett are together as a couple. They've opened up a whole new world to explore with Castle and Beckett together and that is making me excited about what's ahead and not paranoid that the show might falter now that Castle and Beckett are together.
Great post! I agree! I have loved every part of this journey, the good and the bad, and sometimes conflict is needed to progress the storylines to evolve/grow and mature the characters. Is it September yet?
I honestly doubt that marlowe and the writers would make castles dad the muderer. I trust him, i mean after all the gave us 4 sucessful seasons.
