EW: 'Castle' star Stana Katic on last week's epic finale: 'I think waiting any longer would have been unfair and dishonest.'

Castle‘s season finale last week left fans who’d been eager to see dynamic duo Castle and Beckett take their relationship to the next level satisfied and excited to see what’s to come.

Stana Katic couldn’t help but tease to us with the “what’s to come” part, but she did share her mutual excitement for the pair’s big step. She took us behind the scenes of the finale by breaking down Esposito’s decision to back Beckett while searching out her mother’s killer, and talk about her big rooftop fight!

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This season finale felt perfect for the journey we’ve been through this season. Did you see it kind of the same way?

STANA KATIC:
Yeah, I loved it. I felt like if we waited any longer it would be untrue to the characters. They’ve gone through a lot together, a lot of really great moments and a lot of really scary journeys together. I think waiting any longer would have been unfair and dishonest. So I think [creator Andrew Marlowe] did a really great job bringing those two characters finally to a point of complete honesty with each other.

  3. I have to take my hat off to the creators of this show but specifically Andrew Marlowe, Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion. They have given us something truly special. I'm so glad that they hung tough during that period where some fans threatened to leave (most likely empty threats) and they let the characters get to this point themselves, rather than externally pushing them together sooner just to appease a few desperate fans out there.

I was never one who constantly lambasted Andrew Marlowe for deliberately "dragging things out", as I felt I understood the journey he's taking us on. What a pay-off! That season finale was so fantastic and has opened up a whole new can of worms. It's going to be so much fun watching them try to handle being in a relationship while dealing with other external issues. I thought it was so great how they left us with the greatest ending to a season ever, while leaving so many questions unanswered. Looking forward to September!

  5. I'm glad to hear from Stana, Queen of the Caskett Shippers! It makes the fact that there's no new Castle this week slightly better. It's only been 1 week and I'm already having serious Castle withdrawals. This summer is going to be so long! :(

    1. I'm having withdrawls too. I was driving in a car with my family on esplanade road, and I thought it said esplanie, Lol. And my cousins are starting to remind me of Ryan and espo haha.

    2. I think we, all shippers and castle fans, are having withdrawals! In socials this morning, my teacher said 'Alright class you are doing a project on medieval castles'. And I looked up so quickly think it was ABC's CASTLE.... Then i realized it wasn't... awww shoot! Don't worry a dose of that kiss and reading/watching interviews will help us get through the summer

    3. LOL Brit, when I saw "esplanade road" in your post, I read it as esplanie, too! OMG, I've got it bad! Every time I see a couple kiss on TV, all I see is Castle and Beckett shutting the front door. September can't come quickly enough!

  6. It was cool that Beckett found out that everything Castle told her in their confrontation was true and as an extra added bonus she didn't have to die! That whole episode was brilliant :)

  7. On.a slightly different note: from the moment castle "shuts the front door" with beckett to the end of scene it's roughly 47 seconds! Coincidence much??

  8. Guys, I'm just really glad that everyone who stuck by AWM and had faith in the story he is telling us got the payoff they deserved to see.

I knew AWM wouldn't let us down and I know he'll continue to make us smile, scream, cry, laugh, blush, and sigh with all that's to come for Beckett and Castle.

Like AWM said, where they are now isn't the destination, it's just another stop on their journey together. See, I'm already sighing over Season 5 and it hasn't even started yet.

  9. Such a great interview. I love Stanas intviews, she always has such great thought process, and really adds strength to how I view Beckett. Her thoughts are always so insightful and interesting.

On another note, I'm sooooo missing castle and it's only been a week! Just one week! So we have like another 16 weeks to go on average. The wait will be hard but at least we have 4 great seasons to watch again till then. My husband who i force to watch with me, as I don't like watching alone, agreed to do reruns every Tuesday night as that's when I watch it here in Malaysia. Yayy so I can still feel like I'm getting my castle fix weekly. It's better than nothing.

Btw, I'm still getting all sorts of colorful butterflies in my tummy when I watch the always kiss. Yes I watch it everyday. Yet it still gives me chills. That's how hot that scene was.

Elena, read on another thread that you met Nathan and Stana. Lucky you. I'm not at all surprised at how you described Stana, she really does seem like a lovely person just from interviews I've seen. Good for you.

    Cheers from Malaysia!

  10. Stana is amazing! It would have been unfair and dishonest, I'm glad she realizes that. She's one of us.

    1. Yes Stana is an amazing person (and so is Nathan and the rest of the cast/crew while I'm at it)! Andrew Marlowe has already voiced this same mindset of theirs. He explained that they pushed the story as far as they could without risking anything becoming "artificial" before getting them together. He has also stated in the past that once they're together (which they are now) then they won't be pulled apart. That doesn't mean that there won't be any challenges that test their relationship getting in their way on the rest of their journey. He also has stated that he thinks there is so much more material he can work with once they're together. With the kind of chemistry Nathan and Stana have there's no way in hell the show will hit the skids now that their characters are together. In fact I can see the opposite happen, that they will push on and take this show to new heights. Looking forward to seeing this happen. September is a long way away lol.

  11. Off topic but what I read here, makes me think about it. Is the sentence "shut the front door" rude or not ? I know he meaning of course, but I don't know if it's very polite like a little girl could say or in the contrary if it's a bit rude and so you just can't say that in front of the Queen ! And by the way, great great finale for a great season of a great tv show !!!
