4x23 - Always (Season Finale) - Additional Sneak Peek

Source: TheBestSuperVacicci8

The Season 4 finale might be one of the most highly anticipated finales of the year. It's been a season of push and pull, hot and cold, lies and half-truths, so fans who were in it for the will they/won't they aspect alone were schooled in just how complicated one show's core relationship could be.

In the of the interview with boss Andrew Marlowe, which posted before Monday's zombie episode, Marlowe teased how that episode's action would bring Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) closer again -- and it did -- but he was also quick to add: "Of course, we knock that on its ass in the finale." Of course.
Now, here are some of his more promising teases for fans (and a jaw-dropping exclusive sneak peek below). "In the finale, the characters are ready to have this conversation. The characters are ready to talk about how they feel," Marlowe said. "So we can make that promise to the audience that all the cards are laid on the table in the finale."

Full interview with Andrew Marlowe available at the Huffington Post.

  10. After that she will storm out, think about stuff while "enjoying" the rain over her and when she gets wet enough she'll realize he did a good thing by protecting her, so she runs back to Castle and make up =D

  12. OMG, this is heartbreaking! He basically puts her in a position where she has to choose between him and her mom's case...and she will choose her mom (we all know it), at least at first. But then, after fighting a loosing battle, after hanging from a roof top and holding on for dear life, I think she will do some serious thinking and come finally to the conclusion that her life is worth more than her mom's murder. And that's the moment when she'll choose Castle, that's when she'll realize what she's doing to him by pursuing the case, by constantly putting her life on the line, that's when she'll end up at his door step, wet from the rain, and they will kiss and...you know. Uugh, can't wait for Monday!!!

  15. Oh Nathan what are you doing to me there! Boy that is some great acting, if Kate doesn't realise you love her now she's doesn't deserve you frankly. Phew!

Stana was heartbreaking too but the speech from Rick - Nathan earned his pay check that episode. He loves this woman SO MUCH.

If that had been me I would have been dragging him off to the bedroom secret or no secret.

  16. um guys dont mean to be the debbi-downer here but i think Kate turns the sweetest i love you moment into a fight, coz in the CTV promo she says 'you cut a deal for my life' and in the US promo Castle says 'I am more than a partner!' so she's going 2 deny the fact that she loves him!! OMG!!! grrrr. i reckon the hand holding comes 1st, then she asks him to come to her house to add to her murder board & then this takes place. ohhfarout!! just kisssssssss already haha i actually dont care if they are sort of on bad terms for the rest of this episode, as long as they 'shut the front door' at the end ill be crying on the floor again worse than what i did for the Undead Again caskett end scene, the promos and this sneak peek!!

  19. I am so glad I'm alone right now. OMG, I just has a friggen meltdown. I screamed the first time around, and then the second time I watched it I started bawling like a baby. OMG I am shaking right now. That was amazing. Nathan and Stana are incredible, I just have no words for how happy this make me. That is the single best scene in the history of Caskett scenes. 23. yah, tried not watching that but I just couldn't help myself. OMG AMAZING!!!!!!!!! and this is why I love this show

    ReplyDelete
  24. As many on tumblr have pointed out, I think this sneak peek has purposely been edited so that certain lines aren't included. You can tell there's bits missing since it's an uneasy flow (especially when Kate says " By lying to me about the most important thing in my life" jumping to "HOW THE HELL COULD YOU DO THIS?!", there's something missing there.) They obviously didn't want to make it too spoilery.

I mean out of all 6 sneak peeks, this is the one to avoid if you're trying to remain as spoiler free as possible but it raises more questions as opposed to answering them.

I think she'll return his "I love you" right after the cut off of this sneak peek. Her face looks too forgiving at the end for her to just disregard what he said and tell him to get out, like last year.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I think you're right, some words seem to be missing.

So their kiss in the promo comes after all these sneak peeks, I guess. It comes after the roof sequence, so, maybe there's gonna be a sweet ending...

      Who knows?

    2. i agree i think its been edited as well coz if you watch the first canadian promo during that scene she says to him 'You cut a deal for my life' and in the sneak peek it isnt there so yer defintly think it might have been edited a bit.

  26. what if this clip comes before the clip in the us promo where i forgot what ricks says but he says something about im here for u or something idk and then kate grabes his hand and says something. what if that clip with them holding hands comes after this one after kate has time to cool off and realizes that rick just cares about her. then kate goes off on her own maybe with ryan and espos helpd, behind gates back and goes after the sniper. then she almost dies but is saved by ryan or espo and then she visits her mothers grave to try and move on and maybe "talk" to her mom and tell her she has to move on. she starts walking and then comes to the swings. she feels like everything in her life is falling apart and maybe she feels like she has lost everything even her job, its starts to rain and then she knows what she has to dpo. she goes to ricks appartment and kisses him. :)

  29. Just in case anyone noticed, the shift from "By lying to me about the most important thing in my life?" to "How the hell could you do this?" didn't seem organic.

I think that some of this conversation has been edited to hide some key spoiler-y parts that we've heard in the promos. I imagine that "You cut a deal for my life?" and "I'm more than a partner" fit somewhere in between this promo. So this conversation is going to be more powerful in the actual episode.

    1. Also noticed that between her asking "What are you talking about?" & him looking down at his feet AND then her asking him "Are you a part of this?", there is a remarkable change in Stana's expression, too much to happen in that amount of time ... so I'm expecting some stuff there too ... even if its in the DVD release.

  36. Nathan Fillion: possibly the most underrated actor out there. Why? Because he plays the funny guy so well, but just then, in those moments were the emotions are plumbed to their depths, he manages to conjure up scenes like this one where he convinces without doubt. Remarkable.

  40. So, it seems like Kate will be wearing three different outfits in this episode. The one from the first sneak peek is in the beginning of the episode. The white shirt is the next day/middle of the episode. And, the leather jacket/shirt is from the end of the episode.

Definitely think the kiss and potential sex is at the very end of the episode while something going down with Ryan/Esposito is the mystery part of the cliffhanger.

    ReplyDelete
  41. My idea for cliffhanger, Mr. Smith comes to Castle and tell "Rick, I'm your father" and then we have fading screen to black with Castle shocked face...

I tell you, Martha has secret too.

  47. This sneak peek- just amazing! Yes from the promos we can tell there is definetly a lot more to this conversation, but it was still incredible !
Now about the Marlowe interview.... I really just should not read any interviews with him ! I always just end up with more questions! Yes some of what he said was reassuring....and then some of it left me guessing more and a bit worried. His interviews do this to me EVERY TIME! I don't mean anything bad to Marlowe but since hes the producer its his job I suppose to make us feel like that lol! So from now on unless its just like one question ,I will try not to read long interviews with him....emphasis on *try*.
Anyways the sneak peek left me shaking !

  48. I like the raw emotion and script here. How he describes her is so true, but he loves her regardless and that's a great love story. I have no idea how this will end, though in my head, she leaves although it's her place, as she needs to clear her mind.

I like how Stanas expression was when she asked him if he was a part of it, the only person she trusts so completely let her down in some way. She looked like a little girl, just hoping he didn't actually betray her. And Nathan's expression following that is so hurt. They both did an excellent job in this scene.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree. From what we've seen they both did an excellent job in this finale!

Ok, this is how this scene ends in my mind...

After the fighting, Kate won't step back and she is determine to take the dragon down (of course!). Castle would say something like "I watched you dying once, I won't do it again." and leave.

      Delete
    2. At one of the promo she did say 'let them come, I am ready'

      Delete
  49. I like how she's not wearing her usual 4-inch heels during this serious conversation -- it's as if her shields are down and she's ready to let Rick in.

    ReplyDelete
  50. My theory is that the first part of the sneak peak...up to the point where she says, "How did you do this?" Is followed by some sort of explanation about Mr. Smith and her question, "You cut a deal for my life?" To which he replies something and ends with the declaration of love. The end of the conversation is her saying, "I'm ready, let them come." She ends the conversation and Rick leaves heartbroken. She ends goes to the preceint and Gates confronts her, perhaps she resigns at that point. She goes back to her apartment....to get another gun. The sniper is there. They fight and she nearly falls off the roof. In one of the promos she is kneeling over someone (my guess is it is the sniper who has been shot by Gates at that point) and in the aftermath she goes to the swing. Her father meets her there, and discloses that he begged Castle to keep her safe back in Knock-out. Kate realizes at that point that she loves him and doesn't want to be without Rick....hence ending up at his loft at the end of the episode. What the cliff-hanger is I have no idea....but looking forward to finding out!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree it's definitely been edited for the sneak peek, but the impression I get from all bundled together (because of course I could not for the life of me resist pressing clicky to watch 'em all), is that she won't say return the ILY in this scene, that she'll be too stunned and hurt, even if she does believe he was lying to her for what he thought were the best of reasons.

As the last couple of eps have shown, her secret was based on her inabilty to handle ILY while also recovering from her trauma, and so yes, while trying to prepare and guard the potential future of a relationship - the one relationship - that she wants to work, her secret has essentially been one of self-protection.

Rick's secret, on the other hand, has been all about keeping her alive, and I love how the other sneak peeks in the precinct really reinforce the bind he's in, when she says "I don't know how I've lived so long, I feel like the other shoe is gonna drop."

I hope Kate comes to realize that Rick basically inherited Roy's position within the precinct, and that if she can accept and forgive Roy's role in all this she surely could come to terms with Rick's role, even if the sense of betrayal here is in a sense greater because of course she does love him too.

I love how, in the earlier peeks, that Rick is also the one saying "let's not jump to conclusions" while Ryan, Espo and Kate are all driving hard to make a link to Joanna Beckett. It's good to be reminded that Castle's secret is from them too. Only he and Roy knew the full picture. In a lot of ways Castle is really alone in all this, and shouldering a great deal.

This scene is Marlowe knocking everything on its ass. I think she will go off on her own, and I think the resignation happens after the first apartment confrontation. I'd guess the sniper/rooftop chase scene may happen after she's turned in her badge, especially if her future at NYPD is part of the cliff-hanger, but I'm still mulling that over.

Part of me wishes I'd not read Ausiello's "that's what happens when you sit on swings in the rain" comment, because that does seem to hint at a timeline that mighta been fun to be surprised by. I'd say that happens after sniper dude escapes, and Kate has another near death experience. Afterwards, as one of the central underlying arcs for her character has been the whole dang season, Kate has to decide what she'll do, what she wants her life to be, even if she never does solve her mother's case. Will her life continue to be defined by her mother's murder or not.

Love all the sneak peeks, thought they have been tastefully suggestive without giving too much away. The fact that the cards on the table and a kiss (....and daaaaaaamn what a one) were both in the peeks, leads me to think the cliff-hanger twist may yet be as surprising and successful as S3 was.

The fact that Nathan called this finale "dessert" as well just makes my heart sing.

I can't wait to see what happens. I admit I've grumbled about parts of the season, and perhaps been frustrated in ways additional to what Marlowe intended, but I think it will all have been worth it.

To paraphrase Galaxy Quest, "Never give up, never surrender!" In the mean time, "replay" is getting a strenuous work out, lol.

    3. A very good examination and you bring up some excellent points; Castle dealing with this on his own, being Roy's 'replacement, etc. Moreover, I wonder how Beckett got to such good state prior to this with all of her counseling, but as soon as some alleged evidence pops up, WHAM, she's back on her way down the rabbit hole. I think she or the City should demand their money back from Burke!

I'm waiting for the scene where Castle blames all of this on himself. When you think of it, none of this would have happened if he didn't get involved way back in S1. That would make a terrific scene and one that would elecit soem guilt or regret from Beckett, that she is not the only one, and let's not forget her father. Losing a spouse is horrendous and for Jim BEcektt, losing a child, and over the same reason no less, might be unrecoverable. I doubt that will come up; again, a great scene where he pleads with her this tiem, rather that asking Castle.

Still, that's what TV drama is all about.

What's interesting is that Marlowe seems to be limiting much of the criticism launched towards Hart Hanson as respects 'Bones'. Yes, it will take four seasons with Caskett, bit it's still two less than 'Bones'.

The teases by the actors and critics like Ausiello are the most maddening, I think. I can handle the ones posed by Marlowe and ABC, as they release the sneak peeks, although if they are editting those scenes to get us charged up, that is not fair play!

I can see this episode as being the best one; let's hope it delivers with the hype, nevermind the tons of fanfics out there!

  52. If the kiss happens in the last seconds of the episode and we have to wait 'til next season to see her eat his face(so hot),I will stab somebody( as I glance at my neighbor). I can't take much more of this.

    ReplyDelete
  53. So right after Kate says, "By lying to me about the most important thing in my life?" I think either she or Castle says something in between that and when she says, "How the hell could you do this?" because that scene doesn't really flow - it's like there's a little jump between Kate's two lines. So maybe that's where Castle says he's more than a partner.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking the same thing. For one, Kate's mood completely changes in like, a millisecond. First she's shocked and then she's pissed. It doesn't add up. I'm glad they're not showing all of it though, because I want to keep some things un-spoiled.

      Delete
    2. Agreed - and the music doesn't really fit the scene - i wouldn't be surprised if they just used it instead of the music in the real scene when they edited this down to share...

and is it just me, or does beckett look super short in this scene next to castle? i didn't think there was that much of a difference in height?

      Delete
    3. Well, when Beckett wears really high heels, of course there isn't going to be that much of a height difference.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I think they'll definitely change the music in that scene- it's too happy. It looks like Kate must just be wearing flats instead of her 4 inch heels. Stana is 5'9 and Nathan is 6'1, so there's a decent height difference there. This might be overanalyzing it, but I took the fact that Kate is not wearing heels to mean that she's going to open herself up completely to Castle. She doesn't need the psychological edge that the heels give her, her walls are down, and she's ready to tell him how she feels.

Kate will choose her mom's case... after seeing what it does to everyone else what will she do? I do feel the season finale will leave us hanging with Castle and co in serious danger, or maybe even already hurt... What if his daughter never made it to graduation?... I need to calm down. This isn't 24.

  58. I'll start off by saying that's one of the best sneak peeks I've ever seen! Agree with those who suggested that it looks like it has been edited so to not give away the whole conversation between them.

Secondly, everyone seems to be caught up in that sneak peek (and I don't blame them lol) and I haven't noticed many if anyone on this particular thread venting their frustration over the fact that the "cards will be put on the table" line was used again!

Thirdly, Kate's facial expressions to me showed someone torn between her love for Rick and her anger that he has been deliberately keeping her away from the case that has defined her life. I suspect that she will either ask him to leave while she deals with the ramifications of what he was doing, or he will leave on his own terms, leaving her stunned and unable to say anything. From this point I suspect that he will go straight home. I would love for Kate to go see her father (although I haven't seen Scott Paulin, the actor who plays Jim Beckett being mentioned anywhere). If they could fit in a scene with him that would be great. I always remember the scene in Knockout where he said to Rick in person: "don't let her throw her life away" (referring to Kate). It would be great if he told his daughter this, as that would calm Kate down enough to forgive Rick. According to Auseillo she sits on a swing somewhere (perhaps the same one she sat on in Rise) and gets caught in a torrential downpour. Perhaps at this point her true feelings (her love for Rick) swell in her and she rushes over to his apartment and the fireworks begin!

    1. LOL, I noticed the cards on the table thing because I read the little article before watching the video, but the clip completely drove it out of my mind. ;) I think Marlowe is just being quoted over again, though. I don't think he said that phrase again, and if he did, he needs to come up with a new catchphrase.

I would also love a scene with Papa Beckett! An episode dealing with the JB case wouldn't be the same without him. Although, there is a LOT of stuff to cram into this finale, so it's doubtful that we'll get to see him. Maybe in the premiere of season 5. ;)

  59. They look like they are physically closer to each other at the beginning of this conversation than usual, and they are in her apartment. And she's smiling at him in a borderline flirty way before it all goes downhill.

  60. Kate's big girl shoes are off in this clip. She seems so much smaller than Castle here. I don't think that is an accident. Beautifully done. Just amazing.

  61. Dear Kate,

I keep looking forward to a day I suspect and hope is coming soon. That day being when Rick becomes as important in your life as your are in his. Perhaps even THE most important thing.

I greatly look forward to seeing your consideration of the matter on a swingset in the rain.

    Thanks sincerely,

duly aching for being played by Andrew Marlowe over entirely fictional matters.

PS. The titles of the John Woo films, The Killer & Hardboiled. Deliberate and specific choices, methinks. Look 'em up. I think people might be interested to consider the kind of flavoring and meta-commentary they add to the larger circumstances.

    I never Meta-Marlowe I didn't like.

  68. After reading the full interview with AM I'm thinking that Kate tells Castle that she does love him during this scene.

  69. Andrew, you cryptic S.O.B. just once I'd like you to give us a strait answer. you're a great writer but you abuse your audience and you know it! "I would acknowledge that, if I were a fan, I'd be a little bit angry" really? you think? Not giving your audience what they want is a important tool for a writer but you better be damn thankful for Nathan and Stana because if it weren't for them we wouldn't have put up with your abuse.

    1. You seriously think that he's going to tell you what is going to happen in the episode before it goes on the air?
Please. I understand your frustration but try to think realistically, eh?

    2. My comment wasn't so much on him not saying anything about the episode; that would be ridiculous. Actually rereading it, I was rather in-eloquent; lets hope this post remedies that.

I was primarily focused on the rather abusive nature of his style writing, he's a great writer and his story telling method is founded deeply in realism. Unfortunately, the vicissitudes of real life are abusive. The vicissitudes in relationships are not something people want to stick around for unless there's value beyond the source (Nathan & Stana).

My general thesis is that; he was very cryptic in this interview and didn't provide the fan base with anything to hope for beyond the finale. Other than mentioning Alexis' potential future and it's effect on the family dynamic, AM didn't say anything he hasn't been saying since the latter half of season 2 first half of season 3.

Being cryptic has it's place but there comes a point where the answer to "wait and see" or "I want people to watch it to see what we do" becomes "screw it what else is on." or "I'll just DVR it"

It's important I say that I'm far to big a Castle fan to abandon this show. also, in my opinion Andrew Marlowe is a brilliant writer; however in terms of how he handles interviews and the fan community it wouldn't hurt to be a little more like his wife Terri.

I probably, just made things worse trying to explain myself but at least the anonymity here protects me from looking like an idiot. God I love this Site!

    3. Sorry to tell you, even if it is anonymous, you're still looking like an idiot. Can't understand your rant - AWM was never anything but honest, both in his writing and in his interviews. And he's right, why should he give away anything more than he does, there wouldn't be any surprises for us anymore, plus we as fans should actually WATCH the show. TV shows live on teasers and not on revealing all the secrets before the show actually airs.

I've actually enjoyed all seasons so far, season 3 and 4 were my favorites, because that was when we got more insight into the characters. I think you should calm down, lean back and enjoy the ride - it will be AWESOME, as always. ;)

    4. I'm on your side with this little debate Anon 7.05 AM. Quite frankly, the creators of any show have to be cryptic all the time. If they weren't then they would be constantly hounded for ruining the surprises! Effectively then they're in a lose-lose situation and Andrew Marlowe's position is no different.

In regards to Season 4, I have enjoyed it thoroughly just like every other season so far. I get that some of us are frustrated because they wanted to see things handled differently than what they were, but time and time again I see people saying "Season 4 has been a waste of time for me", without giving any explanation as to why they think that. I don't want to sound like I'm being rude here, but if you have an issue it would be great if you explained your reasoning!

  71. OH. MY. GOD.

I just cried, screamed, and dropped dead. In that order.

That has got to be the most awesome spoiler I have ever seen. I love how he describes her. So completely accurate, and really shows that no matter how she is, he loves her anyway. And her face as the scene goes on is absolutely perfect. You can see on her face at the start of it that she is so happy just to know he's concerned, and then the shock and the anger, and even though she's pissed, you can see that she is thrilled when he tells her he loves her and describes her.

Nathan and Stana are two of the most incredible actors I have ever seen. The emotion and the feeling and the honesty they each bring to the characters is incredible. Their chemistry is astounding. I don't know how those two dont spontaneously combust just being in the same room, DAMN.

I hope that kiss is at the end of the episode, because Im pretty sure it's going to light my TV on fire, and Im going to be pissed if I miss anything else after that because I was too busy calling the fire department. :)

Alright, off to wear out the replay button!!!!

    2. They sooooooo should be together. How can you not with that kind of chemistry? How can they resist?

    3. I just loved the way you could tell how thrilled she was at how he was describing her whilst being angry at the same time and man he is sooo in love with her!

Nathan was quite brilliant at conveying how much he cares and I loved the way he was struggling with emotion just trying to get the words out with tears glistening in his eyes! He's so passionate and upset.

That scene kills me, I just want to wrap my arms around him and hug him for the pain he's going through because you can tell he's also terrified he may lose her to the sniper.

Why couldn't we see more of this kind of stuff during the season?

    4. Anon 7.19 AM, give yourself a pat on the back because that is a brilliant comment and I am in full agreement with you! Stana has been getting a lot of plaudits this season for her acting (especially that scene from Kill Shot where Esposito shows Kate the rifle that shot her and begs her to use it as a strength and not a weakness), but in this scene (once it is shown in its entirety) Nathan really shines. So wonderfully done how he is struggling to get the words out. Once again, like in the final moment of Season 3 when Kate was shot, his soul is laid bare for her to see. This time she doesn't have a bullet inside her and will have to act on it. That won't happen right away, but we all know that she will turn up on his doorstep not too long after this moment drenched from the rain and free from that "wall" of hers, leading to the fireworks beginning!

  72. I waiting to see how beckett will react to his ILY's in the sneak peek it will be interesting.. because she knows he does love her before now... and it is not like he is springing this all of sudden... if she ignores him now...and pretends to pissed off... I dont think he should stick around.. come on... Atleast he should leave her apt pissed.

  73. I think that when she's like searching for words at the end of this scene, she's trying/wanting to say it back but I don't think she will; based on the new promos I think she'll go off, either fight the guy and then go sit on the swings, or just go and sit on the swings, and then when she goes to his loft she'll say it when he opens the door. Guess we'll see on Monday (Tuesday for me) ;)

    1. I think she does say it in this scene. Just something that AM said about it in one of the interviews.
My theory is that the scene with them holding hands is right after this. Then he has to leave to go to Alexis' graduation. It's while he's gone that the whole fight on the roof and the swing in the rain come in.
I think he just expects her to show up for the movie date, not soaked and with her walls completely down.

  76. Does anyone else feel a little bit of deja-vu comparing this scene to the one in Knockout where Castle asks Beckett to walk away, and where she gives him the opportunity to define their relationship (he just says he cares about her). This time he tells her he loves her.
I'll be interested to see how the unedited scene relates to that one in Knockout

  77. Oh my god. I am now officially a zombie. Walking dead. Whatever.

I keep thinking: "Marlowe told in an interview that the fun would be returning in season 5. It is going to be a light season. I WILL survive this last angst-filled episode of season 4! Ugh!"

    But I'm afraid I won't..

Think about the epic fanfics, though! And fanvids.. Gawd. I just realized how obsessed I am.. Ah, well. Nothing to do about it now!

"Always" might have something to do with the cliffhanger? How 'bout it being sarcastic? "What about 'always', Kate?" ... "Oh, your sweet, little boyfriend isn't gonna save you, Katie? What happened to 'always'?" ... "I am ready." "Well, too late for that." "What?" ... Oh, god, no. Really, I have no idea.

Wait. 'God no'/'Oh God' (unsure of the exact wording?). That was a part from the promo for Headhunters, right? Did we ever get to hear that in the actual episode? Or did they maybe steal it from the finale? Nah, it was probably in Headhunters. Better not read into things...

Please bear with me. I have no idea what the hell I am supposed to think, and I have not really given "the actual plotline" of Always a thought... :P
