Mega Buzz - 2/21/12

Any update on whether Castle will be touching on the 3XK killer again? — Chase

ADAM:
The show is definitely keen on revisiting that story line, but it's all about timing. "We're having talks about whether we're bringing him back by the end of this season," executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe says. "But we're still waiting to hear on Season 5. If we get the Season 5 pickup, it's something that we might wait and make more of a meal of next year."

  1. Whenever 3xk killer comes back I bet he is going to go after Jenny and Beckett just to mess with Ryan and castle. Keep in mind he only kills blondes, but he will hurt anyone.

    1. Jenny's blonde... Wouldn't that be a great twist if 3XK went after Jenny? Obviously, they can't let him kill her, but it would make it just that much more personal for Ryan.

  2. Wait, season 5 hasn't been picked up?

In Scooby speak let me just say, "Ruh-row!"

    That makes me nervous...

    1. No need to worry, ABC hasn't renewed ONE show.

    2. Very true Hannah. ABC hasn't renewed any of its shows. But castles a great show. It will be renewed no doubt. I'm not worried, nobody should be. We will get a season 5

    3. Plus, they're releasing a board game, trading cards, AND a new Nikki Heat this summer. They wouldn't be doing that if they didn't think it would be picked up again.

  3. oooh, i see it now. jenny in great peril and ryan flies in and gets all medieval on 3xk's butt. espo always gets to plug the bad guy. it's totally ryan's turn to curb the waste of good oxygen, and with 3xk, it couldn't happen to a better (worse) guy. provided jenny doesn't actually get hurt, which would, of course, be awful and turn ryan into some crazed vigilante killer. or something like that.

  4. hmmm so season 5 is in limbo? so if AM is still thinking about a 3XK episode near the end, what does that say for his plans on the seasons finale? Would an advance in Castle and Becketts relationship be massively affected by whether or not they get picked up for season 5?

    ReplyDelete
  5. I've wondered if 3XK would go after Alexis. After all, he did overhear the phone conversation with Martha where she mentioned Alexis and her then-boyfriend. He 3XK really wants to punish or mess with Castle, that would be the way to do it.

  6. Although I'm pretty sure we will be getting a fifth season, I can only imagine what the end of this season would be like if we didn't. There are so many secrets to reveal.. so many loose ends to tie up. Castle lying to Beckett about investigating her mom's case. Beckett lying about hearing his "I love you." Castle's father. 3XK. And the two getting together for crying out loud.. there's no way we won't get a fifth season. There's too much of the story that's not completed yet.

  7. I hate to be a downer here, but I just get the feeling like they won't get renewed. Last year they got renewed in Jan, but this year still no word. The finale will be becketts secret and castles secret coming out. They will fight and then 3xk will shoot beckett in front of castle and this time he will succeed In diving in front of her and he gets hit. And then they will show that castles dad is some big dumb CIA person who kills 3xk right after he shoots castle. Then the end. Seriously I don't know if I should cry or laugh about how the show is now. But
yeah I feel they will cramp everything in the last episode. Oh and don't hold your breath about the Johanna Beckett case. It will be dropped because Marlowe doesn't have a clue how to spin what Will Beale started. That man was a genius. And now he is gone.

    1. ABC hasn't renewed any shows, yet, so calm down. Castle still has good ratings, and it will be renewed.

  8. If there's not a fifth seson (which there hopefully will be, fingers crossed!) then the rest of the fourth season will be totally jam packed.
Beckett's secret will come out and they will get together. (which they will have to do of its the last season)
Castle's secret will come out and Beckett will be mad for like one episode.
In the finale (or before) they will sleep together and just admit that they are totally head over heals in love. Castle will propose or do something totally romantic and the show will end with them living a "happily ever after" life type thing.

  9. Is it true that so far season 4 has the lowest ratings ?
If that's true, thanks to Marlowe for not listening what the fans want.

    1. I'm not sure about the lowest, but yes it lower than season 3...but you may be right, it could be the lowest, no idea...

What annoys me as a loyal fan is not so much that Marlowe doesn't listen, fine he wants to drag it out, ok but please for ods sake make it interesting then. Is it just me or has the sexual tension died? Season 3 was so good at that, and then bam season 4 is all about being boring. I don't mind waiting for a little while for them to get together but they need to show each other some love. They barely even want to be near each other. Touching or hugging is forbidden by any cost. That's silly, their good friends, and when one needs comforting, the other should be there. The last episode was a perfect example. The ending was half baked. I was unsatisfied. I just kept saying thatst it! After nearly dying, their partnership and friendship being out through so much, dealing with Sophia, haing been told that hips father is CIA, after all that, all she does is bump his shoulders. And he makes it so damn clear that he only sees her as a muse. Because he is not drawn to her in another way. Their chemistry is dead. And that means its a matter of time that the show will be dead too.

    2. No, it's actually not true. Castle's ratings this season are pretty much on par with where they were last season. In fact, Castle's ratings for Linchpin actually beat out how it performed with last season's 16th episode (Setup). When you're looking at viewership, Castle is actually #2 overall for ABC (behind Modern Family and just edging out Once Upon a Time). Yes, Castle, on average, has more viewers than Grey's Anatomy. What hurts Castle is the demo. What that means is advertisers will pay more to have their ads seen during Grey's Anatomy than they will for airtime during Castle. Many of us have noticed ABC's increase in support and promotion of Castle as of late. I think what's happening here is that ABC is trying to capitalize on the amount of viewers Castle brings in. If they can make Castle a more well-known show, advertisers will be willing to pay more to buy ad space during Castle. See my post below this to read more about the other ways ABC is working to promote Castle in order to boost the price for ad space. It's overall viewership numbers puts it in the same category as Modern Family, Grey's, and OUAT. ABC has been lax in promoting Castle in the past, but that seems to be changing lately. If ABC can raise Castle's value to advertisers it will have 4 big money makers on its hands. That's very enticing to the network. Why get rid of a show you know has a strong fanbase and replace it with something that's starting from scratch? Instead, ABC is more likely to work with what they have and work on promoting the show more heavily.

Ratings are a tricky thing. I had to do a bit of research to fully understand how they work and what's important to networks. I really do think Castle is going to be renewed. The fact that it just got 2 People's Choice Awards certainly doesn't hurt its cause.

Anyway, I'm not a tv insider or anything, just someone that's done a lot of research to understand what's going on. I hope this helps clear some misunderstandings up.

  10. Before everyone freaks out and thinks this means S5 is in jeopardy here are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. NO ABC shows have been renewed yet, not even ratings juggernauts like Grey's Anatomy or Modern Family.
    2. Most other networks have yet to release their renewed/canceled list either.
    3. All reliable websites have Castle listed as "Likely to be Renewed."
    4. Castle's ratings are "down" in comparison to where they were for "Rise." HOWEVER, they are holding steady to where they have been every season before at this particular junction in the tv season.
    5. Castle has not only held steady up against its supposed "doom" Smash, it left it in the dust this week (garnering almost 50% more viewers).
    6. It may have had a bit of a mid-season slump but this week's ratings were already up from "Pandora" and the previous 3 episodes.
    7. Castle has been licensed by ABC for syndication on TNT. In order for a show to be picked up for syndication, it has to have AT LEAST 88 episodes. By season's end, Castle will have 81 episodes. In general, shows that are approaching 88 episodes are renewed (as long as their ratings are decent) so that they can be syndicated. So, based on that alone, ABC is quite likely to give Castle at least another season so it can make good on the syndication deal.
    8. ABC has just given the green light to Hyperion to publish a series of Derrick Storm E-books (to be released in May, July, and August 2012). In addition, the 4th Nikki Heat novel (Frozen Heat) will be released in September. These books are being used as promotion for the series. In addition, why release the Derrick Storm books if they don't anticipate bringing back the show? People aren't going to be interested in a product tied to a series that is dead in the water.
    9. Cryptozoic Entertainment just acquired the licensing to create trading cards and a board game based on Castle. The game and cards will be released this fall. Again, why would ABC go ahead and partner with a company to create a product to promote Castle if it has plans to axe it? That would make no sense. Again, who is going to buy a game based on a show that isn't even on anymore?

    1. Part 2:

      10. ABC just launched "Club Castle" on its website. Again. why go ahead and create promotional opportunities for a show that they don't intend on renewing. They had to pay people to go ahead and design the site, right? They have to pay people to monitor and maintain it, don't they? Why invest money into something that has a very limited time stamp (i.e. until May 2012)? Again, makes no sense.
11.. It's practically March. Any show that is in danger of being canceled (i.e. Private Practice, Body of Proof) have been placed "on the bubble" by the network. That gives the show runners some forewarning so they have time to get themselves together and tie up loose ends should the show not get renewed. ABC isn't going to take a solidly performing veteran program like Castle and pull the rug out from under it. It's unprofessional and just bad publicity for the network.
      12. Castle has a panel at Paley Fest. ABC Studios owns Castle. Why allow a show they don't plan on keeping on its schedule to participate in this event? Again, it would be another example of promoting a show for no good reason. Makes no sense.

Ok, I think that should suffice as good enough reassurance that Castle will be back. I would be SHOCKED if it wasn't. It just wouldn't make any sense. I hope anyone who is worried about Castle's fate feels a bit better after reading this! :)

And I got to say I am beyond excited for the 4th Nikki Heat book. Folks, if you're frusterated with Caskett, get into Castle's mind and pretend Heat and Rook are Beckett and Castle. It. will seriously satisfy your shipper heart. Lol whatever

    8. Well said Elena. Of course Castle will have a 5th season. Otherwise, the whole story would have to be rushed towards the end of this 4th one and it would be a mess. No, it needs a 5th season, clearly.

  11. This one's for Elena.
I often log into this site to check the comments after episodes, or when a spoiler is released, etc, and I occasionally comment, if someone has not mentioned a point I wanted to say. But I must tell you something. A lot of times, I become really dejected on seeing the pessimistic view people have of the show, and I can't lie, I do too sometimes, it's not because I love the show any less, but because I love it so much that I'm worried about if it will be taken off air. An of course, I have my moments of frustration, which only get fuelled further when I come here and read some comments. But then I read your (Elena's) comments, and I feel much better. Not to start an admiration thread here, but your comments have helped me far too many times for me to not thank you right now. I read this spoiler, and the first thing I saw is, how they've not yet been renewed, and I was upset. I was going to type in a comment stating my frustration, but then I checked the comments section first, and straightaway scrolled down to read you comment. Once again, it has magically restored my positive attitude towards the show. Your comments are always very insightful, and they reassure me better than anything else, be it regarding Stanathan, the promos, the high expectations, Caskett, season 5, etc... So I'm just commenting to say Thank you, Elena!

  12. First, let me say that Castle's ratings would skyrocket if the show had a good lead-in. Seriously, The Bachelor??? Having that show as a lead and having it run past 10:00 (Eastern) actually loses people. The on-air television guide gives the description of The Bachelor at 10:00, so people not familiar with Castle might not be able to find it.
Second, I just want to go on record saying that I think Det. Carver (Kick the Ballistics) is 3XK post plastic surgery.
Third, Castle HAS to come back! The show and it's cast are finally being recognized for awards, even though it's hard to fit into a single award category. As stated by others previously, ABC is still promoting it by Storm and Heat new releases, etc. If for no other reason, it IS the Best Show Ever!!!!

  13. Awwww, you guys are making me blush! I'm so glad my post reassured you, though. That's exactly why I wrote it. Actually-I-Do (fun name, btw), I know what you mean about being brought down by some of the commenters on this site. I love coming on here and talking about Castle with fellow fans. I love debating and speculating and theorizing. Castle is such a great show with fantastic writing and a fabulous cast. I look forward to it every week. It may be "just a tv show," but it makes me happy. Therefore, it's become a truly important part of my life. I would be devastated should it be suddenly canceled. Seriously...just utterly crushed.

It's really too bad that recently there's been such a surge in negativity toward the show pouring from "fans" who visit this site. Listen, everyone is certainly entitled to their opinions. I'm a huge fan, but I know the show isn't perfect. There are episodes that I don't LOVE. There are things I wish were done differently (i.e. the opening scene of Linchpin). I get frustrated with the Caskett relationship at times, too. Still, I love this damn show, imperfections and all. It is so discouraging to come on here, or any other board, and see how some people are so intent on tearing down the show and Andrew W Marlowe. I don't get this trend that's popped up that has people not just predicting the show will be canceled but actually calling for it to be axed. What's that about?

I get that most of the anger comes from people wanting MORE from the Beckett/Castle relationship. They want them to stop with the subtle stuff and make with the kissing and the baby-making. Of course, I want that, too. God, the thought of the day when they finally just go at it makes my heart race. Still, I get that AWM has been using this season to build to that moment with such intricacy and care. He's putting things together in such a way that's it going to be amazing when (not if) it does happen. Each scene and each episode are just pieces of the big picture here. Every episode is building upon each other and is going somewhere big at season's end.

Anyway, I have to be honest. After reading the awful things people were saying in the Linchpin discussion post, I considered not posting on this site anymore because I was really upset by what people were saying. Some of the stuff was really disheartening and, yeah, made me worry for the show's future. But you know what? I love this show. I love posting about it. I love interacting with other actual fans who stick by the show in good times and bad. It's positive interactions with people like you all who make me want to come back and keep posting. (PS By positive I don't mean we all agree and are all sunshine and unicorns when it comes to the show. It's great to disagree and debate. I just don't want to deal with people who are straight up hating on the show and full of negativity.)

    1. So, yeah, let's show our love for Castle by continuing to be positive despite the negativity some people are spreading. Let's keep posting, debating, discussing, and theorizing. Let's disagree, let's give constructive criticism, let's examine the shows flaws as well as it strengths! We can't stop people from hating on the show or saying it's gonna be canceled. The only thing we can do is just try our best to not let what they have to say bring us down and make us worry about our beloved show.

Thanks again for commenting and restoring my faith in my fellow fans. I feel like the Castle supporters were being drowned out and smothered by the haters. Let's make sure our presence is known, too. So, if I keep posting and lending my support to this awesome show, promise me you all will, too, ok? :)

    1. Thanks, Mery! Agree, disagree, whatever...as long as people are respectful with their comments, that's all that matters to me. It takes away the fun of interacting with other fans and posting on sites like this when people are downright mean and nasty. I decided today that I'm not gonna stop posting because that would be letting the haters win. I'm not going to let negative people take away something that I truly love doing. :)

  15. Great stuff there Elena. Yeah I too welcome constructive criticism, but I don't like seeing personal attacks on people, especially Andrew Marlow and Jennifer Beals, heck even Jon Huertas copped some! Another thing that struck me was the comments from some people saying that Season 4 has been rubbish, yet I've been on this site regularly since Season 4 began and I have never seen anything resembling significant negative feedback on any episodes apart from maybe Heartbreak Hotel and Til Death Do Us Part. These writers are certainly not perfect, there will be episodes that people don't like, but you have to say they've been consistently good over all four seasons, one of the big reasons why this show is so popular.

I am happy with the pace Castle and Beckett are moving at. I get the feeling that Andrew Marlowe has tried to build a deeper friendship between the two of them this season so that when the secrets come out they can work their way through the rocky ground they'll encounter and hopefully not end up spending another summer apart without communicating with each other. The little shoulder nudge at the end of Linchpin was reminiscent of the one she gave him at the end of The Final Nail, once he realized his friend was guilty of accessory to murder (as he was hurting from Sophia's betrayal). I think Andrew Marlowe knows that the summer apart theme has been done twice now and that fans will not want to see it happen again. Rumour has it that he will avoid pulling them apart and is lining up a different sort of conclusion to the season. Let's hope for the Caskett shippers that this could mean they finally get what they want with the two characters officially a couple! I have also heard that Andrew Marlowe believes there's still a lot of material he can work with once he gets Castle and Beckett together. I think that Nathan and Stana have an amazing chemistry, one that can easily quash any mythical "Moonlighting Curse" feelings people will have once their characters are officially an item. It looks like this season is heading for an epic conclusion and I can't wait to see how it all pans out!

    1. I would love to see an end to the thinking about the "Moonlighting curse." I loved that show, but there wasn't much more to the relationship between Maddie and David than the sexual tension. That's why the show didn't last after they got together. The Castle-Beckett relationship is soooo much more than sexual tension - a real friendship, trust, and respect for each other, and a partnership that goes beyond working crimes. Thank you AWM for allowing the time for these aspects to develop and not giving in to fans too easily. That development and the excellence of the writers will allow this show to last a very long time. It's what makes Castle the Best Show Ever!!!!

      Delete
    2. I think you hit the nail on the head with what AWM is trying to do with the Beckett/Castle relationship. What Sophia was saying was so important for fans to hear...not because he wanted to tell us that he's not going to get them together anytime soon...but because he wanted to show us why he's been doing what he's doing. Sophia and Castle had a relationship built completely on lust and physical attraction. Once the sexual tension was gone they had nothing left. That's NOT what's going to happen with Beckett and Castle, though, because what they have is built on friendship, mutual respect, trust, and LOVE...on top of physical attraction, of course. AWM has taken his time with them and made it so that when (not if) they get together, it's going to be something truly special. I really believe that, which is why, as anxious as I may be to see them together, I'm totally fine with the pace at which they're moving.

Anita, I was so happy to read (a few times) that AWM is not one to subscribe to the idea of the Moonlighting curse. He's made it clear that he is eager to tell the story of what will happen after Beckett and Castle get together. He's said that he believes there is so much more story to tell after they get together, that the romance and fun won't end once they're together. It'll only get better and better.

I really believe that the best is yet to come for Beckett and Castle. I can't wait to see how Season 4 ends and where Season 5 will take us.
