Wetpaint Exclusive: Will Castle Guest Star Kristin Lehman Have Steamy Scenes With Nathan Fillion? She Tells All!

It won’t be long until Castle hits the air again, and Beckett may be getting out of the hospital just in time to compete for Castle’s attention with a new rival — a beautiful art theft investigator played by The Killing star Kristin Lehman.

In this exclusive Wetpaint Entertainment e-mail interview, Kristin tells us about working with Nathan Fillion again after their 2007 series Drive, the tension between her character and Beckett (Stana Katic), and just how up close and personal Richard Castle will get with the new girl!

Wetpaint Entertainment: What was it like working with Nathan again?

Kristin Lehman: Nathan is one of my favorite co-stars I've ever had the pleasure of working with. On Drive, I felt like I’d been sent a gift because it had been a long time since I'd worked with a male co-star so closely who was so committed to doing good work, and was intelligent and really funny. Since we spent almost every scene together it was truly a joy.

Having the opportunity to work with him again on Castle was really a lovely little treat. I jumped at the chance because I also consider him a friend.

NEW 4x01 Rise Promo

Advice from Castle

Castle Targets True Blood Vampire

True Blood vamp Jessica Tuck is temporarily retracting her fangs for a guest spot on ABC’s Castle, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The actress will play a wealthy museum benefactor who becomes a suspect in a murder investigation. This is the same episode that features The Killing‘s Kristin Lehman as an art insurance investigator and a potential lust interest for Nathan Fillion’s titular detective.

Like Fillion, Tuck got her first big acting break on One Life to Live. Although the two never appeared on the soap at the same time, their characters were half-siblings via Viki.

Wetpaint Exclusive Interview With Tamala Jones (Part 1)

With just a few weeks left until the Season 4 premiere of Castle on ABC, we caught up with the amazing Tamala Jones to give us a hint of just how much awesomeness we can expect.

In Part 1 of our exclusive Wetpaint Entertainment interview, Tamala, who plays medical examiner Lanie Parish, tells us about the drama that threatens to tear apart Lanie and Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas), fills us in on Nathan Fillion's return to onset goofing — and drops a few choice spoilers about some truly grizzly Castle murders we’ll be seeing soon!

Wetpaint Entertainment: Last time we spoke, you said Lanie would have a lot more to do this season. Is that how it’s turning out?

Tamala Jones: Yeah! They’ve had me a lot more involved in the crime scenes, even the secondary crime scenes that we’ve had. Some of the detective work happens after I’ve gone and autopsied the body. There were certain cases where I had to go out in the field with Beckett (Stana Katic) to get the other part of the evidence so I could continue my job, which I thought was brilliant, how they incorporated that.
They are adding a lot more Lanie. And there are a lot more sassy lines that you’re going to get from me, which I love.

Do you have any particularly gruesome examinations this season?

Well, with the crimes that are happening, the murder victims, it calls for Lanie to really show her skills a lot more just because ... OK , I’ll tell you one and I hope they just — they’re gonna kill me — but we have someone that was murdered and buried in cement.

So Lanie has got to get cement off and then we discover some other things that were on the body once that happens. The crime scenes are a little bit more crazy this season.

Assignment X Exclusive Interview With Laurie Zaks

Over three seasons of ABC’s CASTLE – which returns for its fourth season on Monday, September 19 – we’ve seen Nathan Fillion’s wealthy, best-selling mystery novelist Rick Castle fall for Stana Katic’s Kate Beckett, the dedicated NYPD homicide detective Castle follows around.

Initially, Castle’s ride-alongs were for research, but by now everybody recognizes there’s a greater investment there than just getting the facts right. In Season Three, Beckett got a lead on the cold case murder of her own mother, which unveiled a conspiracy involving Beckett’s police captain, Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s Roy Montgomery.Montgomery died heroically, protecting Beckett, but at his funeral, Beckett was shot by an unseen assailant. The season finale ended with Castle holding a possibly dying Beckett in his arms and finally saying he loves her.

CASTLE fans are eager, to put it mildly, to see what comes next. Executive producer Laurie Zaks, who has been with CASTLE since its development phase, took some time to tell ASSIGNMENT X what she can without giving too much away.

ASSIGNMENT X: How do you feel about embarking on Season Four of CASTLE?

LAURIE ZAKS: It’s very exciting.

AX: Did you know that you had a Season Four before you guys decided on the cliffhanger that ended Season Three?

ZAKS: I don’t remember the exact timing. We did find out about Season Four very early. I heard rumblings of this very early on in the year. It was percolating and evolving. But I honestly don’t remember the exact timing. If we knew the show was going to end, it would have been a different [season] finale.

AX: As Castle has just seen Beckett get shot, is he going to be a little more wary of getting his heart broken because she may die in the line of duty, or is he pushing forward with the relationship?

ZAKS: Well, I think he’s going to be very aware of the fragility of relationships and I think that, like any person would be affected by [seeing] someone they love [suffer a potentially fatal injury] – and that’s what this year is, it’s the next step in Beckett and Castle’s relationship.

EW Spoilers: Fresh Scoop on Caskett & Kick the Ballistics

Castle spoilers please! Any good Caskett spoilers for Castle fans? — Danielle Gerard

Worried about the addition of The Killing‘s Kristen Lehman as an art insurance investigator/love interest for Castle? Don’t be. I hear she’s only in one episode as of now and has a pretty darn good story while she’s there. Obviously the casting choice was made for a reason (Chemistry? Yup!), but I’d calm myself a bit. She isn’t the female Josh (a.k.a. ‘ship wrecker!). But while Lehman is only in one episode, I can’t say the same for Beckett’s psychiatrist, played by Michael Dorn. He makes his second appearance in Lehman’s episode. (The first being the premiere.)

Hi there, I love your column! I would love some Castle scoop. Can you tell us anything about the return of the 3XK episode, “Kick the Ballistics” being filmed right now?

I assume we can look for some great scenes for Detective Ryan, dealing with the fallout and it will be nice to see him in the spotlight for once. Thanks! — Cheryl
You’re going to see a side of Ryan you’ve never seen before. Also, a bit of casting news! I hear recurring White Collar player Ross McCall (who plays Keller) will take on a role in the ep as a cop who figures into the case. Also appearing? Lost‘s Francois Chau. So far, I’m giving a solid A to the casting choices this season!

Meet Castle's New Lust Interest

TV Guide's Castle Scoop: The Killing Star to Come Between Castle and Beckett?

Think Castle only has eyes for Beckett? Think again.

Castle has just booked The Killing's Kristin Lehman as the latest obstacle between the would-be lovers, TVGuide.com has learned.

Lehman plays Martina Kaye, a sexy art insurance investigator who joins Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) on a murder investigation that involves the theft of a valuable sculpture.

TVLine's Castle Scoop: Killing Actress Kristin Lehman to Come Between Castle and Beckett?

‘CASTLE’: TACKLING THE BIG ‘CHALLENGE’

As of today, it is exactly ONE MONTH to the DAY until the return of Castle. (Sept. 19, in case you have trouble with…months.) And with time dwindling down, I can see inside your hearts (and I can read your angry comments): You want to know what’s up with Castle and Beckett this year. Well, so do I! Luckily, Castle producer Laurie Zaks, knows and can tease appropriately.

“They’re still going to be your favorite couple,” she guarantees. “We are aware of the are-they/aren’t-they dynamic going on. I think the challenge for Andrew [Marlowe] and the writers this year is to take that relationship to the next level — whatever that next level is.” And truth be told, when I chatted with Zaks not long ago, she said some of the specifics are “still being ruminated on.” But, she says, they know a great journey is still before Castle and Beckett.

“We know that that’s there, and it can’t be that forever. That will be the biggest challenge this year,” she says, adding that the premiere episode will, in many, many ways, help set the course for where the show — and our beloved pair — is headed this year. “I think the fans will enjoy what they see.”

Latest from Ausiello and Mega Buzz - 4/16/11

Question: Ausiello!!!! I haven’t heard anything about Castle in a while! What do you have for me?! —Kerri

Ausiello: You don’t have to scream! I wasn’t hospitalized for excess wax buildup in my ears! In the aftermath of Beckett’s shooting, Alexis will fear for her father’s safety more than ever. And you’ll never guess who bears the brunt of her anger/anxiety? Go ahead, have a guess. [Beat] Forget it, you’re taking too long. It’s Beckett! “There’s definitely going to be some words and heat between Alexis, Castle and Kate Beckett,” says Molly Quinn, adding that Alexis “still respects” Beckett, “but at the same time [it's like], ‘This isn’t your life. This isn’t your dad. You don’t understand.’”

Question: Since Tamala Jones recently announced that she has become a series regular on Castle, what does that mean for Lanie and Esposito? —Danielle

Ausiello:
Ironically, it could mean their relationship is dunzo. While Jon Huertas (Esposito) confirms that we’ll see “a lot more of [the pair] interacting as a couple” this season, he adds that producers “want to go all the way to where we may break up. It may be because of Ryan and Jenny and their relationship and where they’re going as a couple into marriage. It might make Lanie or Esposito say, ‘Maybe I want to get married’ — and maybe the other person doesn’t.”

Question: Could I get some Castle scoop please? I finally listened to my hairdresser and watched all three seasons this summer and now I cannot get enough. Thanks a thousand Snapples. —Julie

Ausiello:
Castle’s getting a new lust interest! The show is casting the potentially recurring role of a “gorgeous, sexy, sophisticated art insurance investigator” who takes an immediate liking to Cas — and vice-versa. The twist? Ms. Insurance Lady is hiding a surprising past!

First Look at 4x01

Captain Montgomery, we hardly knew ya. When Castle returns September 19, Kate Beckett (who, judging by this photo, we can now safely assume survives her cliffhanger shooting) will be taking marching orders from a new boss. And not just any boss — but one played by actress Penny Johnson Jerald, who so deliciously terrorized 24's early seasons as President Palmer's estranged wife, Sherry. From the sound of it, Rick Castle may be first on this new captain's hit list, as she questions why he's hanging around her precinct.

TV Guide: TinV Guide Magaze: Congrats on the new gig, Penny. Tell us who this character is.
Penny Johnson Jerald: Our last captain was like a nurturing father figure, but my character's a little different in that she has eyes in the back of her head and won't let them get away with anything. There may be a little shaking up going on at the very beginning.

New Information on Captain Gates

Being at Beckett’s side as she fights for her life isn’t the only crucible lying in wait for Castle‘s titular mystery writer when the ABC drama kicks off its fourth season on Sept. 19.

Instead, once the dust has settled on the season finale’s shocking shooting – which came on the heels of Captain Montgomery being killed — Beckett will find herself having to break in a new boss. But Victoria “Iron” Gates is not one to bend easily, if at all.

“She’s definitely the challenger, where when you’re in her presence, you’re going to be better than your best,” says the new captain’s portrayer, 24 alum Penny Johnson Jerald. “She’s there to make [the officers of the 12th precinct] better than before. But mind you, she won’t put up with the way they’ve been getting [to that level] before, so there may be some trying times.”

Screenrant: ‘Castle’ Season 4 Spoilers Revealed: Daddy Drama & Ghostbusters

Castle fans still have just over a month to wait for the much-anticipated return of ABC’s whodunnit but, in the meantime, stars Nathan Fillion and Seamus Dever have spilled the beans on a few big upcoming episodes.

The biggest news for the continuing story may be that of Castle‘s parentage.

As we’ve already mentioned, this article contains MILD to MEDIUM SPOILERS for Castle season 4. If you are attempting to avoid spoilers altogether, please be advised to turn away now – you have been WARNED.

Still here? Here we go…

Martha (Susan Sullivan) has been tight-lipped about Castle’s father so far, but Fillion is quoted as saying “she knows who the dad is.” That’s pretty non-committal, especially considering the minor daddy drama that’s come before. Expect some kind of reveal in the coming season around the Christmas episode.

Wetpaint: Jon Huertas Pushes for Castle Musical Episode

When we met Castle star Jon Huertas at Comic-Con, we couldn't help asking him about his "sex tape" publicity stunt on Twitter. It's a bummer if you have no idea what we're talking about — the video was recently removed from YouTube, but we can assure you it was pretty darn entertaining!

According to Jon, who has an album coming out in August, the whole thing started as a good old-fashioned Internet hoax. "The bloggers all thought that I had a sex tape, that some crazy stalker chick had kept the tape that we made … as soon as she's about to pull the covers off and show all of that glory, it cuts to a music video [for his single 'Sex is the Word']," he laughed. "It was a lot of fun, just to see if anybody even wanted to hear me singing."

It's clear that Jon's got a serious set of pipes in addition to a fantastic sense of humor, which got us thinking … any chance we might see Detective Esposito rock the mic in Season 4 of Castle?

Penny Jean Harold used this word to describe the new season of Castle: "delicious." Then how about this: Executive producer Laurie Zaks says that episode two features "the most gruesome murder we've ever had." Yikes.

Wetpaint: Lanie & Beckett's "Disastrous” Night Out?!

Tamala: I heard that this season Lanie, Esposito, Ryan and his fiancé are going to have a little tension. And there’s also going to be some tension between Esposito and Castle, because Ryan is not going to be able to make a decision about who’s going to be his best man. It’s a difficult choice because both of them feel like they should be. Esposito, because it’s his partner, but Ryan’s a big a fan of Castle, so how cool would it be to have Castle as your best man? There’s a potential girls’ night out between Lanie and Beckett and we’re all dressed up and sexy.

Interviewer: It sounds disastrous.

Tamala: It is a disaster! Something happens!

TV Guide Spoilers: Where We Left Off

Where We Left Off: At Captain Montgomery's funeral (RIP, Roy!) Beckett was shot by a sniper working for the person trying to stop Beckett's continued investigation into her mother's murder. Before Beckett fell unconscious, Castle confessed his love to her.

What's Next: Since Castle first turned Beckett on to reopening her mother's case, he's going to feel a great deal of guilt — and Beckett's boyfriend Josh won't help. "There is an altercation between Josh and Castle," executive producer Laurie Zaks teases. "They will absolutely have a discussion about the situation and who's culpable." Meanwhile, 24's Penny Johnson Jerald joins the cast as the new Castle-disliking police captain, and Michael Dorn will guest-star as Beckett's police-mandated psychiatrist.

'Castle' Executive Producer on Season 4, Superheroes and Love

Castle had one of the biggest panels on the Sunday of the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Although the official Comic-Con program listed only star Nathan Fillion in attendance, most of the Castle cast joined Fillion on the stage. After the panel, the stars and producers of the show spoke with reporters about Castle, Comic-Con and what's coming next for the show.

Laurie Zaks, the executive producer of Castle, was among those attending Comic-Con.

Whose idea was the comic book?
Laurie Zaks: Probably Andrew's. The answer to every answer like that is Andrew [Marlowe]. If you know Andrew you'd know that not only is he a brilliant writer, but he's a brilliant marketing person. Literally, when he was coming up with, pitching the idea of the show, in the development stage, he was thinking what Castle would look like on the coffee cup. So, for a writer, he has unbelievable business sense. I say the answer to every creative question is Andrew.

The ABC series is also planning its first Christmas episode, a good time for Castle to reunite with his MIA father. "I'm hearing that, too," says star Nathan Fillion. While Castle's mother has claimed she doesn't know the identity of her one-night fling, Nathan believes "she knows who the dad is."

Spinoff Online Interviews Castle Cast On Cliffhangers, Relationships And The Future

After the Castle panel at Comic-Con International at San Diego, the cast met with the press for a brief discussion of Season 4, season-finale cliffhangers and the future of the characters. Executive Producer Laurie Zaks joined stars Nathan Fillion (Richard Castle), Seamus Dever (Det. Kevin Ryan), Jon Huertas (Det. Javier Esposito), Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) and Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle) for a more in-depth look at Castle’s upcoming surprises.

One of the many cliffhangers of the Season 3 finale was the unfortunate and untimely death of Capt. Roy Montgomery, played by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. As a key character in the series, Montgomery’s death will be felt in different ways by the cast.

Read the full article at Spinoff Online.

Will Castle Have to Choose Between Beckett and Alexis?

We can't bear the thought of watching Castle without Molly Quinn, but it seems like Alexis is pretty hell-bent on following Ashleigh to Stanford.

"Alexis seems to really like this boyfriend. I personally think it might be to get more attention from my dad now that he's so focused on, you know, Detective Kate Beckett," Molly revealed at Comic-Con while rolling her eyes. "But she's not bluffing."

Sounds a little out of character for someone as strong and independent as Alexis, so why the teenage angst? According to Molly, Alexis feels like Beckett is taking advantage of her father.

"I think she [Alexis] might have at first liked Detective Kate Beckett — I'm sure she loves her as a strong woman — but she's been putting my dad in danger, and my dad is my life," Molly said.

"So to see his attention taken by this other woman — and she's not really treating him in an appropriate way, in the way that I think he should be treated — I think there will be more friction between Kate and myself. I don't think that they are really going to get it on too well this season."

Will the Sniper Who Shot Beckett Return in Season 4?

It's an understatement to say that Kate Beckett went through a lot in Season 3. The Triple Killer came back, her mother's case was reopened, and she nearly froze to death while trying to stop a nuclear bomb from obliterating Manhattan.

Getting shot by a sniper during Captain Montgomery's funeral was really the icing on top of a disaster-filled season. No doubt our girl's going to be dealing with some serious post-traumatic stress.

Enter: Javier Esposito. Just like his character, Jon Huertas has served in the military and knows a thing or two about PTSD. "It's the No. 1 injury of U.S. combat veterans," he told Wetpaint Entertainment at Comic-Con.
