Ask Ausiello: Who Comes to Blows in the Premiere?

Question: Rumor has it the season premiere of Castle will be penned by series creator Andrew Marlowe and directed by Rob Bowman, which pretty much confirms that it’s going to be great. Got any more scoop? —Cheryl

Ausiello:
The episode is called “Rise,” but a better title might’ve been “Major Fisticuffs” seeing as how two characters come to blows in the opening minutes. Who?! Hit the comments with your best guesses and then keep close tabs on my public Facebook page for the big reveal in the not-too-distant future (read: next 24 hours)!

Inside TV: Casting the New Captain

Sandra! Did you notice Castle is casting a woman as the new chief? Just like we recommended! We’re awesome!! That’s all. Oh, and scoop would be nice! — Sharon

Yes, you called it! I hear that casting is just kicking off, so it might be a while until we hear a decision. But those of you hoping for Lisa Edelstein might be out of luck. I hear they’re leaning toward casting a woman of color. Then again, you never know. Ideas?

UPDATE: The part is now being cast for a female in her "late 40's/early 50's" for the role as captain.

Mega Buzz: Castle's New Boss

I can't believe how long we have to wait for more Castle. Please ease the pain with scoop! — Sharon

ADAM:
Unfortunately for our crime-fighters, the new captain, who will almost certainly be a woman, is a former Internal Affairs investigator who is more interested in politics than police work. But it might not be all bad: Though creator Andrew W. Marlowe previously told us she won't look as favorably on the Castle-Beckett pairing as Montgomery (RIP!) did, she'll ultimately be a loyal team leader.

Ask Ausiello: More About the New Captain

Question: Now that the writers have returned to work on Castle, do you have any scoop? Any further tidbits on the new female captain you mentioned last week? —Cheryl

Ausiello:
According to some just-released character intel, the new boss lady cut her teeth in Internal Affairs and views the captain’s chair as nothing more than a stepping-stone to a bigger, more prominent job. She also has a rep for being a bit of a hard-ass to her co-workers, but she also has a fun and flirtatious side.

More Ryan and Esposito in Season 4?

This excerpt was taken from an interview with Jon Huertas at http://www.jonhuertasfan.com/

Jon Huertas: It’s going to be hard this season for me to [direct] because I know that, in discussions I have had with Andrew Marlowe, they’re opening up a lot more of Esposito and Ryan’s stories and their home life and their personal life and how they deal with the Captain being killed.

E! Spoiler Chat: Female Captain

CastleSP: Do you have spoilers about Castle season four?

Castle producers have already started putting the feelers out for a new season four series regular, the captain. The new boss lady is "ambitious, good-looking, career-minded" and is "more adept at politics than police work." Things might get off to a rocky start with our heroes but she will prove herself to be a very loyal ally. Who do you think would be perfect foil for Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion)?

Ask Ausiello: Will the new captain be female?

Question: I know it’s been less than a month since the Castle finale, but I am seriously missing seeing my favorite couple on screen — especially given how the season ended. Please give me some scoop to help shake the hiatus blues. —Cheryl

Ausiello:
Is it out there that Captain Montgomery’s successor will be female? If not, it’s scoop to you!

(I'd take this one with a grain of salt. Andrew Marlowe mentioned in another interview that he was considering the idea of a female captain, but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere else just yet. And Ausiello has been known to get it wrong in the past.)
