TVLine Exclusive Casting News: CSI's Liz Vassey Resurfaces on Castle

Former CSI lab rat Liz Vassey is returning to primetime in an episode of Castle, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Vassey — whose departure from CSI this fall drew a loud rebuke from fans — will play a real estate broker who gets caught in the middle of New York’s pizza wars. Think Famous Rays vs. Original Rays, only with different names and an extra topping of murder.

Vassey’s ep is slated to air in the spring.

Fancast Interview: Adrian Pasdar Is ‘Castle’s New Hero

Monday, “Castle” airs part one of an intense two part episode that has Beckett and Castle grappling with their biggest case yet: a terrorist plot with the potential to destroy New York City. They are also dealing with another threat: a hard-nosed Homeland Security agent who is determined to take over the case from America’s favorite mystery writer and police officer crime solving team. “Heroes” and “Profit” star Adrian Pasdar, who plays humorless HSA agent Mark Fallon, explained why he was thrilled to appear on “Castle,” how the case brings Beckett and Castle closer together, and how he and Nathan Fillion bonded over an inappropriate iPhone app.

TVLine Interviews Adrian Pasdar

Adrian Pasdar Previews Castle's 24-Like Story Arc, Teases 'Amazing' Profit Follow-Up

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but ABC’s Castle this week is bringing on a familiar face to help the NYPD get to the bottom of a case a bit bigger than they’re used to tackling. But whereas a year ago it was Dana Delany playing a prickly G-Woman, this Monday at 10/9c, you get Adrian Pasdar as a hardcore Homeland Security honcho. Also, whereas Delany’s FBI Agent Jordan Shaw was enlisted to track a serial killer picking off innocents one-by-one, Pasdar’s Agent Mark Fallon is on hand to stop someone from killing a whole lotta people at once.

Pasdar spoke with TVLine about his 24-like, two-episode arc and if — as Delany did with ABC’s Body Of Proof (premiering March 29) — he stands to parlay this plum gig into something more.

Inside TV: Adrian Pasdar on 'Castle' Episode's 9/11 Connection

Adrian Pasdar is no stranger to playing a hero, so taking on his role as Department of Homeland Security Agent Mark Fallon in the upcoming two-part Castle event was a natural fit. And whatever world-saving skills he’s still got stored away from his Heroes days are certainly called into play during the dramatic episodes — especially in “Countdown,” airing Feb. 28. (In case you missed it: I teased the first part last week.)

“‘Countdown’ is just that — the clock is ticking at the beginning. We have to head off at the pass of what could be a detrimental, nasty echo of 9/11 to NYC,” he says of the bomb the team is tracking in the episodes. “When you’re dealing with such weighty subject matter — and some of my best friends are former FBI agents and first responders, so I have a responsibility, as do all Americans or any concerned citizen of the world — to protect the memory of the victims. That is, sort of in a nutshell, what the second episode is about. And there’s a reveal that makes it all come together why he is the way he is.”

“The way he is” meaning Agent Fallon is kind of a jerk — to put it frankly. But Pasdar promises, it all makes sense. “The reveal in the second episode is one of the best-written reveals I’ve ever been a part of, and I’ve been a part of few good ones. From Profit to Heroes, there have been a few. But this ranks among them,” he says.

The pressure is on, lines are crossed, and my expectations are sky-high. Pasdar suggests I won’t be disappointed: “The hardest thing to do in television is combine realism with escapism. It always has, and it always will be. But this second episode does it seamlessly. So in terms of expectations, I think [it will] supersede them. Television doesn’t get any better than the second episode of Castle.”

Mega Buzz: Intense Two-Parter

I'm still reeling from the Castle kiss this many weeks later. Tell me there's more where that came from! — Sharon

ADAM:
While I can't promise another liplock, I can tell you that in next week's episode, Castle and Beckett will be locked in a confined space with one another. Twice. In related (and perhaps squeal-inducing) news, that same episode, the first of an intense two-parter, finds Beckett wondering if she should be with a man who isn't always out healing Third World countries.

Inside TV: Dish on the Big Two-Part Episode of ‘Castle’

Full disclosure: I’m a total sucker for two-part episodes. If it’s action-packed and full of moments worthy of the Inception button, it just can’t lose in my book. And if you’re like me, you better prepare yourself for the Castle two-parter that kicks off Feb. 21. The episode guest stars Heroes alum Adrian Pasdar as a douchey Homeland Security suit (Beckett’s assessment, not mine), and it follows Castle and Beckett as they find themselves intertwined in a matter of national security. And after learning more about the first part, I can see why Will Beall stressed to me a few weeks back that the episode was all about “high-stakes.” It’s definitely a more action-centered episode, and a particularly tense scene at the end of part one made me audibly yelp in fear. (Fact: I. Don’t. Yelp.) But there also are a couple of moments between the crime-fighting pair that will leave fans pretty happy — particularly the one when Castle and Beckett are trapped in close confines and she makes a heartfelt confession after a major revelation about Josh. This pair will be the death of me…

QuickTake: "One Life to Lose"

CORBIN BERNSEN, REBECCA BUDIG, CAMERON MATHISON AND JANE SEYMOUR TO GUEST STAR IN SOAPS-THEMED STORYLINE ON ABC'S "CASTLE" THIS MARCH

Corbin Bernsen ("The Young and the Restless," "Psyche"), Rebecca Budig ("All My Children"), Cameron Mathison ("All My Children") and Jane Seymour ("Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman") will guest star on "Castle" for a soap opera-themed storyline to air in March (date TBA). "Castle" airs Mondays (10:001-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

In the episode, entitled "One Life to Lose" (series star Nathan Fillion was on the daytime series "One Life to Live" as Joey Buchanan from 1994-1997 and on two episodes in 2007), a murder has been committed on the set of "Temptation Lane," one of New York's longest running soap operas. Sarah Cutler, the head writer on the soap, has been killed with a fire axe. Castle and Beckett quickly discover that the behind the scenes drama at "Temptation Lane" is just as scandalous as the fictitious storylines, and just about everyone would kill to get ahead. Ultimately, Castle's unique skill set as a writer leads to a discovery about the killer and the secret he or she would do anything to protect.

Character teasers: Lance Buchanan (Bernsen), a rugged, self-assured, veteran actor on "Temptation Lane," has a romantic history with Castle's mother, Martha Rodgers; Mandy Bronson (Budig) is the young and gorgeous diva lead actress on the soap opera who is very aware of her sexuality and uses it to her advantage any chance she gets; Vince Bowers (Mathison) is the devastated husband of the victim, and as a director on "Temptation Lane" is very involved in the backstage drama; and Gloria Chambers (Seymour), the grieving mother of the murder victim, is revealed in a shocking twist to have a deep, dark secret that she's desperate to keep.

Starring in "Castle" are Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Ruben Santiago-Hudson as NYPD Captain Roy Montgomery, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers, and Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle.

"Castle" is produced by ABC Studios. Andrew Marlowe serves as executive producer/writer, along with executive producers Rob Bowman, Laurie Zaks, David Amann, and Armyan Bernstein.

Keck's Exclusives: Jane Seymour Joins Castle's Soap Opera Episode

The lovely Jane Seymour has been added to the cast of Castle's upcoming episode set in the world of a fictional daytime soap opera. Jane will play the elegant Gloria Chambers and joins a growing guest cast that includes All My Children favorites Cameron Mathison and Rebecca Budig and The Young and the Restless' Corbin Bernsen.

Though Jane has never appeared on an American daytime soap, she's certainly familiar with the material, having headlined such melodramatic 1980s TV movies as Obsessed With A Married Woman, The Woman He Loved and The Haunting Passion.

Keck's Exclusives: Castle Casts Soap Stars For "One Life to Lose"

ABC's Castle is having a little fun with star Nathan Fillion's beginnings on the soap opera One Life To Live with an episode titled "One Life To Lose." The episode, which will air this spring, involves a murder on the set of a fictional daytime drama called Temptations.

Just cast are All My Children favorites Cameron Mathison and Rebecca Budig, as well as L.A. Law veteran Corbin Bernsen, who has been popping up as a priest on The Young and the Restless for several years. Corbin will play Lance Buchanan (an obvious send-up of Nathan's One Life to Live character, Joey Buchanan), Temptations' handsome and dashing lead actor who has the reputation as a ladies' man.

Cameron plays a character named Vince Bowers; Rebecca will appear as Mandy Bronson. The intrigue involves a Temptations fan who blogs about her intense dissatisfaction with the soap's storylines.

Nathan joined One Life's in 1994, and even after his star began to rise, he returned to the soap for several guest appearances.
