Will the Sniper Who Shot Beckett Return in Season 4?

It's an understatement to say that Kate Beckett went through a lot in Season 3. The Triple Killer came back, her mother's case was reopened, and she nearly froze to death while trying to stop a nuclear bomb from obliterating Manhattan.

Getting shot by a sniper during Captain Montgomery's funeral was really the icing on top of a disaster-filled season. No doubt our girl's going to be dealing with some serious post-traumatic stress.

Enter: Javier Esposito. Just like his character, Jon Huertas has served in the military and knows a thing or two about PTSD. "It's the No. 1 injury of U.S. combat veterans," he told Wetpaint Entertainment at Comic-Con.

  1. And when Beckett is having severe PTSD symptoms, you know who's gonna be there for her? Castle, that's who. Bam, said the lady.

  2. Maybe not; Alexis may have some issues that her father will not ignore, even if she goes to Stanford, which I don't think she will, she'll be too preoccupied and worried. Beckett will react and keep Castle in the bullpen. That too could give rise to more interaction with the new captain.

This will be a great season!

  3. I think the conflict with Castle, Beckett, and Alexis will occur during the first half of the season, in the aftermath of the shooting, and while Alexis is still in town. If I remember correctly, she said that she wasn't eligible for Stanford until January, so if she actually goes, that might provide...opportunities for Beckett and Castle's paths to cross a bit more frequently. Just a thought, but I would imagine that any great strides in their relationship would occur once Alexis has gone her way.

Or not. You never know with this crew.

  4. PTSD? Lovely... Now we get to see Beckett sobbing in a corner every time she encounters something that triggers her?

I'm a little worried that the writers are writing themselves into a corner here, as far as the tone of the show is concerned. Yes, the shooting might've been a great way to add some complications and further the Castle/Beckett relationship, but something that serious is going to have some big ramifications for the characters. As if Beckett's mom's murder case wasn't heavy enough in what used to be a light-hearted show... now we have to add PTSD into the mix!

I love the show, but I am getting a bit worried about its direction.

  5. No, the thing about PTSD is that people can get really IRRITABLE.

So a snarky Beckett may become a little off-putting to even the most devoted Castle.

It could throw a real spanner in the works esp if they had already hooked up...

  6. I'm going to guess that the PTSD is what gets Beckett into the therapist's chair.

  7. Yeah there seems to be so much serious stuff going on this season.

    1)All dealing with Montgomerys death
    2) PTSD for Beckett and Castle probably
    3) Alexis making things difficult

I hope these issues are dealt in a humourous way, i think it will be. AM knows the show is meant to be lighthearted.

I think the new captain will order Beckett and Castle to go for some partners therapy or so, and I think the writers will make parts of that serious but also parts of it funny, like how Beckett and Castle will be have their usual banter in front of the therapists. So that will be fun to watch.

As for Alexis, I hope they make her and Beckett try to form some relationship and I hope by mid season they both are getting closer.

And the repurcussions of Castles "I Love You" confession i think will be interesting to watch as I think it will be funny in the way they react around each other. They may be a little more touchy feely but try to hide it from the rest. But I seriously cant wait for this. I hope they are at least closer in their interactions and spend time together outside the precint.

  8. This is totally irrelevant to the post, but I'm gonna say it anyway.

One of the things I'm looking forward to the most in the show is when they have to hide the relationship from the others when they actually do get together, which we all know they will eventually. One of my favorite things about the show is how Ryan, Esposito, and Lanie tease them about their relationship, and it's going to be great when they start to get suspicious. I can only imagine... for now :D
