Keck's Exclusives: Castle Duo Hits the Sheets

A sexy Castle storyline I first broke news of this past summer is finally happening. With Castle and Beckett's unconsummated tease expected to stretch out for several seasons, the ABC series is giving fans the next best thing. In the January 10 episode, it will be revealed that Detective Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) and medical examiner Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) have been secretly getting in on for some time!

"We find out it's been going on for about eight weeks, so it's still a new thing," reveals Jon, who had been campaigning hard for the storyline. "Of course we try to hide it from the gang to keep things professional, but it's hard for us to control ourselves."

Nathan Fillion Talks Castle, Firefly, and What's Next

So give us a little scoop on 'Castle.'

Well, this has just hit the airwaves, that Castle and Beckett have finally had enough of the tension and they finally lock lips. They finally do the tongue wrestle, the lip lock, the mouth push-ups... what can we call these? [laughs]

Mouth push-ups? I've never heard that one. [laughs]

Me neither. I'm making these up right now. The tongue twister... not the kind you're thinking. How's that?

[Laughs] So is it just a kiss?

Just a kiss? Not the way they do it. I don't think you can fairly watch what we're doing and say, oh it's just a kiss.

That's one of the things about shows like this...when there is tension, and it's resolved, it can be an issue. But you guys have a really smart show, so I'm not really worried.

I agree. And Stana (Katic) and I disagree on this. She says we're perfectly capable of putting these two together and having the show survive. I say, personally, I love watching the characters that I love on television fail. I love knowing better than they know. I love it when they're flawed and they need to grow and they need to learn something... not one at a time. They both have to do it at the same time. Even when one's ready, the other is not. There is always this kind of ill-timed thing. It's always, 'never the two shall meet.' And I think our writers have been excellent at performing that very difficult dance and making it a tease without going, 'nah nah, it's never going to happen.' It's always just about going to happen. They're getting closer, then they get farther. Then they get even closer, then they get even farther. Like they can't win for trying. That's what I enjoy. I enjoy being smarter than the people I watch on TV.

One of my favorite things about the show is the relationship your character has with his daughter.

You missed it! Molly (C. Quinn) was here last night. I haven't seen her in a week and a half. She wasn't in this episode we're doing right now. I enjoy her tremendously. The only problem I have with her... when she started the show, she was fourteen, going on fifteen. Now she's seventeen years old. It's tough meeting someone and going, 'Oh my god, you're the greatest little kid. And...oh my god, you're actually becoming an adult.' I don't even want to know. 'Don't talk to me about boys. I don't want to know about that. Okay, here's what you've got to do. Don't call him back! No... okay.' I get twisted up! It happened to me on 'One Live to Live,' right about the same age. I had a younger sister on the show. And all of a sudden she's grown up and getting her own apartment in NY. And I was like, 'What? You're a child!' And she was like, 'Nathan, I can vote.' Arrgh. It was driving me nuts. Watching someone you consider a little sister and feel a certain amount of responsibility for grow up. I think that's a difficult thing. And I'm not even a father! I have the sin of pride when it comes to Molly. I don't know why. I am not responsible for her amazing-ness in any way. She has great parents. I get all, I don't know, wrapped up. It's tough. It's tough for guys who play people's fathers! [laughs] It's tough for people who play fathers on television.

3x10 - Last Call - Sneak Peeks

`Castle' alert: Beckett, Castle share first kiss

LOS ANGELES – A stakeout leads to a smooch on ABC's crime drama "Castle," with Rick Castle and Kate Beckett finally sharing their first kiss.

Played by series stars Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic, the pair locked lips in a scene filmed outside a downtown warehouse late Thursday for a January episode.

As "Castle" fans know, the show's weekly whodunits share equal weight with the will-they-or-won't-they romance conundrum for the lead characters.

Castle is a best-selling mystery writer and single dad who is an eager consultant with the New York Police Department. Beckett is the no-nonsense detective ordered to work with him. Their growing sexual tension — and banter — is reminiscent of the 1980s "Moonlighting" mystery series with Sybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis.

Sooner or later, however, TV viewers demand results from such chemistry lessons.

"Castle" executive producer-creator Andrew W. Marlowe said Friday he's aware that many loyalists are rooting for Castle and Beckett to "take their relationship to the next level." The show couldn't hold off forever, Marlowe said.

But ratings can suffer when a lively mating dance turns to humdrum romance, so expect "Castle" to take it slow on the potential road to love.

The Castle-Beckett smooch comes during an episode about Beckett's long-frustrated effort to solve her mother's murder. There's more to the lingering embrace and kisses than passion, according to the script. The episode's January date has yet to be determined, ABC said.

"Castle" (10 p.m. ET Monday) has become a hit for the network, routinely landing in the top 20 in the Nielsen ratings and attracting more than 10 million viewers weekly in its third season. It has also inspired mystery novels published under Castle's name and featuring a fictional heroine, Detective Nikki Heat, based on the fictional Beckett.

Exclusive First Look: Meet Castle’s New Beckett!

ABC’s Castle will turn up the Heat this winter when viewers meet the star of the movie version of Rick’s Heat Wave novel — and Movieline has your first look at the new brunette beauty on the crime scene.

Starting January 3, That ’70s Show alumna Laura Prepon will be guest-starring as Natalie Gray, the actress bringing Nikki Heat to the big screen.

Seeing as how the fictional Nikki is modeled on Beckett, it will be interesting to see if Miss Gray’s mimicry of Castle’s muse might stir a little something within the handsome mystery writer.

For anyone missing Prepon’s blonde locks, here’s a pic of her Castle character arriving for her first meeting with Rick and Kate, pre-“transformation”:

ABC’s Castle returns with new episodes Monday, December 6, at 10/9c.
