From Firefly to Dr. Horrible to Castle, let it be known that Nathan Fillion is dipped in all kinds of awesomeness.
So when we hit the set of Castle and he started spouting off words like "emotional" and "cliffhanger" when talking about the upcoming season finale, we started to worry. ABC best not be messing with our all-time favorite supersexy TV novelist! (Sorry, Angela Landsbury.)
Not surprisingly, those "emotions" surround the show's cornerstone, could-be coupling of Castle and his partner in crime-writing/solving, NYPD Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), and here's what Nathan can tell you...
Can you tell us about the season finale?
Absolutely! Beckett has set her eyes on another man, and it's really getting to Castle. He's really not having an easy time with it, so we're getting to a point in time where she's gotta make a choice. And he's gotta make a choice! There's gonna be a choice made. An emotional choice. It's an emotional cliffhanger.
Did you get a say in this "choice"?
I said Esposito, but they didn't go for it. You know, he's always playing the sex card.
Is Beckett's new love opening Castle's eyes to what's been right in front of him all this time?
It's a matter of you don't know what you got until it's gone. You don't know how much you value what's yours until you see it slipping out of your fingers, so that's a superimportant part. They do this lovely little dance. They drive each other crazy. Castle wears everything on his sleeve, while Beckett's a little more guarded. They get really tight and really close and excited. I mean, the closest thing they have to sex really is when they're solving a mystery and making strides, moving forward and figuring things out. That's their turn-on, but why doesn't it move forward from there? You got two people that are always opposed and yet always together. What are you gonna do? Poop or get off the pot, I believe is the phrase.
OK, cut to the chase. Are Castle and Beckett going to get together?
I believe that's called jumping the shark. Moonlighting did a very valuable lesson there.
We've also heard a bit about a new Richard Castle book hitting shelves soon.
Naked Heat. We're going to come out with a paperback in June, and then it comes out in September. "September 28," said a voice in the distance.
Do you ever wish you could actually write something for the show?
The episode I've always been pitching was pretty much what the book turned out to be. We see the world through Castle's eyes. All the girls are crazy about him and everything works out his way and he's incredibly cool. I was thinking about flashing back and forth between the actual reality and Castle's reality, how we see his life, which he sees through rose-colored glasses. That would be also be the episode I was pitching.
Was it nice getting the early season pickup?
What is that? Season three?! Never heard of it! If you look at my résumé—don't look at my résumé too closely—you'll see a long list of failed television programs. This is my first season three ever! The closest I've come is two and a half seasons, so here we go!
So what do you think? Ready for a Castle cliffhanger?

Dish Of Salt: Wednesday TV Dish (‘Castle’ & Beckett: Hot Or Not?)
By Laura Saltman
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Yesterday, I was on the set of ABC’s hit show “Castle” as they taped their season finale episode. Part of the fun of the show is the whole “Will they or won’t they get together?” aspect of the relationship between the two main characters. Why do the stars of the show disagree so drastically on taking the relationship to the next level? Plus, is the “American Idol” tour coming to a city near you? The answer in today’s Dish.
Castle & Beckett - Hot or Not?
He’s the murder-mystery novel writer who helps the NYPD solve crimes. She’s the detective who he has partnered with (and the basis for a character in his next book). Fans love the continuing romantic tension between the characters Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) on “Castle.” As I found out, when I visited the show’s set in the finale (airing May 17) they take that tension and turn it on its head - thanks to former “Battlestar Galactica” hottie Michael Trucco. Michael plays a robbery detective who becomes romantically involved with Beckett. His first episode aired April 19.
“Michael Trucco comes in as a love interest for Beckett’s character, in these last four episodes of the season, and in the season finale it kind of comes to a head,” show star Stana explained. “It’s kind of like Castle is not just going to hang around and watch his girl fall in love with someone else. He is somebody that is formidable, I guess as a competition for Castle, which I think is really great because it also creates questions for Castle like, ‘Why I haven’t I jumped on this yet, really?’”
Michael said his character knows something is up between Castle and Beckett. “My character is a detective,” he joked. “He’s been around the block! He’s figured this one out.”
He’ll have to fight to keep his woman and the potential love triangle is further complicated when Castle’s first ex-wife returns in the finale episode. However, it turns out the stars of the show don’t actually agree on whether or not Castle and Beckett should get romantically involved and become an on-screen couple.
“I watched ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ the other day and I loved that they were married and yet there was still so much more to learn about each other,” Stana explained. “I love the concept of people, even though they are married, finding the passion and that zest for each other. I think that there is a whole realm of possibility and I think that being afraid of the two of them getting together, I think that we shortchange the possibility of television and of entertainment and of storylines.”
Nathan, however, has the opposite opinion. “You can say, ‘Oh I love the show. I love the show. I really want them to get together.’ Then you really don’t love the show. You are not thinking clearly,” he explained to the show’s fans. “If they get together, it’s over. It’s a little something called ‘kaput’ in show business!”
Hmmm. They both make good points but then again, when David and Addison got together on “Moonlighting” it turned out to be a show killer. So, I think I will side with Nathan on this one! Keep Castle and Beckett apart!

TV Guide Transcript: Romantic Intrigue
Transcript:
Castle Finale: 5/17, 10/9c, ABC
Prepare for plenty of romantic intrigue as Castle closes the book on Season 2. "We owe it to our audience to deal with the attraction between Castle and Beckett," says executive producer Andrew Marlowe, "to really push our characters to examine how they feel about each other."
Any epiphanies will be prompted by Beckett and her burgeoning relationship with detective Tom Demming. "As is true in real life," says Nathan Fillion, who plays Castle, "you realize how much you like someone when they start likin' someone else."
Tension between the mystery novelist and his muse will only complicate the cases they aim to crack. On May 3, the duo investigate the death of the winner of a Top Chef-esque reality competition. "He's been frozen with liquid nitrogen," Marlowe says. On May 10, Beckett invites her new boyfriend to help solve the murder of a business-man who runs a high-end toiletry company for men. "The subtext [is] this rivalry between Castle and Demming," Marlowe says. "What's unspoken is that whoever solves it wins the girl."
And in the finale, the show's stars get caught up in the world of spies, though the bigger mystery will be whether they'll continue to work together. Look for real-life crime novelists Michel Connelly and James Patterson to offer advice during one of their recurring poker games. Wonder what they - and Beckett - will have to say about the return of Castle's ex-wife (Monet Mazur)? Marlowe offers only this tease: "People need to watch!"

Where will Castle and Beckett end up this season now that Beckett's got a new man? — Sidney
ADAM: Well, Castle isn't going to sit around and wait: As we've reported, he'll be busy rekindling the flame with his ex-wife and editor Gina (Monet Mazur). "There's a lot of unresolved stuff that is still out there in regards to what went on and what went wrong with Castle in his previous marriages," Stana Katic tells us. And how will Beckett react to his renewed relationship? "You don't just stop liking somebody overnight, so I imagine it will affect Beckett, which will be great. Anything we can do to heighten the stakes."

Castle Exclusive: Guess Who's Coming Back Into Castle's Life
Beckett's new love interest on Castle isn't the only obstacle to a Castle-Beckett pairing.
Monet Mazur will return as Gina Cowell, Castle's ex-wife and book editor, in the Season 2 finale, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Castle's Stana Katic: Beckett's ready to tango with new love interest
Cowell, who last appeared in the show's pilot, turns up because Castle (Nathan Fillion) has fallen behind on his latest book. Gina hopes to get Castle back on track — in more ways than one.
The old flame will be rekindled, creating some interesting reactions from Beckett (Stana Katic). However, Gina's reappearance may just open both Beckett's and Castle's eyes.
Check out photos of the Castle cast
Mazur has recently appeared on NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: Miami and Cold Case.
Castle's season finale airs May 17 at 10/9c on ABC.

Castle's Stana Katic: Beckett's Ready to Tango with New Love Interest
Castle's Stana Katic likens the romantic tension between her character, Kate Beckett, and Castle (Nathan Fillion) to a dance. And in Monday's episode (10/9c, ABC) Beckett's going to switch dancing partners.
Will Castle's explosive cliff-hanger create sparks for Castle and Beckett?
When Beckett's team catches the case of a murdered thief, they look to robbery division Detective Tom Demming (Battlestar Galactica's Michael Trucco) for help with the case. And he steals Beckett's heart.
"It's really wonderful to have the opportunity to show a more sensual, romantic side to Beckett," Katic tells TVGuide.com. "I think it's great having someone like Tom Denning who is genuinely interested in Kate and is formidable enough to become a bit of a competitor for Castle."
However, Katic says Castle's response is more than petty jealousy. "It forces Castle to have some introspection as to why he hasn't approached her yet in that way and what's going on with his relationships and past romantic experiences," Katic says. "He's had a number of girls swing in and swing out. So, this is an opportunity for us as an audience to delve deeper into something he may not realize he's missing."

Queen of the 'Castle': Stana makes the guys do all the work
Last week on “Castle,” Det. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) almost died at the hands of a deranged serial killer who tried to blow her up with a strategically placed bomb.
Fans freaked out — “ohmigosh, they killed Beckett!” — and, as it turns out, so did some of Katic’s family members.
Katic, 31, recalls taking her 10-year-old cousin to a recent TV festival where they screened the two-part episode featuring the near-death-scene in question.
“I was closing his eyes for the murder stuff, but [right before the explosion] I had to leave because I had to go sit on this panel and talk to people,” she says.
“One of the producers stayed with him and afterwards she said to me, ‘I really think you need to go sit down with your cousin. He’s really disturbed about the explosion, he’s really concerned.’
“So the whole taxi cab ride home, I had to convince him that everything was going to be okay and that Kate jumped into the tub at the end. I thought that was just so sweet to have a little cousin be that invested in my character. It was really heartwarming.”

First Look: Castle’s Worst Nightmare!
Brace yourself CASTLE fans. For on April 19th, the will-they-or-won’t-they tango between New York’s most eligible mystery novelist and Beckett will come to a screeching halt. Big time. Thanks in no small part to BATTLESTAR GALACTICA alum and Christian Bale look-a-like Michael Trucco, who as Robbery detective Tom Demming will sweep Beckett off of her feet (in a recurring role for the rest of the season) when he is assigned to help our dynamic duo investigate the murder of a thief.
'Castle' exclusive: 'Veronica Mars'
ABC’s just-renewed Castle is taking a stab at reality TV with an episode centered around the murder of a former contestant on a Top Chef-like series. But that’s not the big news. This is the big news: The ep features Veronica Marsgrad Julie Gonzalo as a high school friend of Beckett’s!
Here’s the sitch: Gonzalo (whose post-Marsresume includes stints on Eli Stone and NBC’s in-limbo Day One) guest stars as a beautiful and dynamic restaurateur who finds herself mixed up in the aforementioned murder investigation.
The May sweeps outing, cheekily titled “Food to Die For,” also boasts a cameo by celeb chef Rocco Dispirito as himself.
It’s shaping up to be a busy May for Stana Katic’s smokin’ sleuth. In addition to the arrival of her childhood pal, she’s getting a new love interest in the form of Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Trucco.
